  1. Someone on here did this to a Squier Tele, and the results were astonishing. They made it a light blue color, similar to a Daphne Blue or Sonic Blue, and they beat it up to look vintage. They posted numerous photos, but last time I dug up the thread the photos were no longer available.
  2. That's a good idea. I have considered raising the bridge and getting a new nut. That nut riser would obviously be a cheaper option than replacing the nut. The action on the guitar I'm using for slide is super low, so I need to get it set up properly.

You can tell by his E.T fingers.
  4. A lot of folks feel that black vinyl provides better sound quality than colored vinyl. I don't know if that's true, but if it is, at least you can be happy about that. Having said that, if given the option, I'd buy a colored LP over a black one, and I'd be a little bummed if I thought I was buying a colored LP and it turned out to be black. Anyway, I like the Best Coast tunes I've heard. I'll probably pick this one up.

  6. Me too, and I didn't even log on until 20 miinutes after on-sale started. Hopefully that means the brokers didn't swipe most of the tickets.
  7. I agree that KOL should have either gone on with the show, or at least handled their cancellation differently. The opening bands would have shot themselves in the foot more by leaving the stage than KOL doing the same. They didn't have much of a choice in the situation. There's a big difference between an up-and-coming band struggling through an on-stage hardship and a famous arena act struggling through an identical on-stage hardship.
  8. Definitely a lot of good songs on the first two albums. Something about the more recent ones feels icky, though. I can't put my finger on it.
  9. Maybe Ringling Bros. can acccidentally leave a few elephants up there.
  10. Let's not pretend that most of us weren't big (pre-Blood Sugar Sex Magic) Chili Peppers fans in the '80s.
  11. I've had a pigeon shit on my head before. It's gross, but it's no big deal. Backstage areas in places like that have showers. Clean up, put on a hat and get back onstage. If you still get bombarded, apologize to the audience and call off the show. Maybe have the jumbotron camera operator point the camera at the poop puddles on the stage so the audience doesn't think you're lying (I only say that because I've seen the KOL singer turn into a prima donna onstage and flip off the audience for no appearent reason, and with no apology).
  12. I prefer to play with a band. But then again, the only time I ever played solo was at a beginner to intermediate level music recital in which I was a 22 year old classical guitar novice and everyone else in the recital were a bunch of little kids. (sorry, I just realized those smilies existed and couldn't resist)
  13. Whoa, it looked like they hyperspaced a couple times during that song.
  14. It's spelled awesome, not awful.
  15. Details of this are still revealing themselves with each spin.
  16. I agree. I'd like it if they made a new album, but only if it were something really fantastic, and that seems like a far fetched notion. Having seen the Pixies film (there are several now, and I can't remember which one I saw) it just doesn't seem possible to me that they'd be able to work together in that way. The road is one thing. The studio is entirely different. And the practice space is different still.
  17. They've been pretty forthcoming about the fact that they're only in it for the money at this point (which I fully endorse since they deserve it and earned it, and likely won't get it any other way). http://www.spinner.com/2010/04/27/black-francis-pixies-reunions-money/ I wouldn't expect any new material from them, but I'd be eager to hear it if it materialized. I doubt they could survive all the work that goes into putting together a new album, and I certainly don't want them to put out a turd just for the sake of having new material, or, worse, for the sake of creating the appearance t
  18. Nels Cline Trio: Silencer Dungen - S/T 1999-2110
  19. I got that from my university library in the '90s. Fun read. That cover is hilarious. I'd never seen it before, sicne the library has plain covers on a lot of the books. Now reading: This thing is THOROUGH!
  20. I really enjoyed seeing Steve Earle & Del McCoury Band all over my TV when this was a new release. It seemed like they were on some show or another every weekend for a month or two. I don't like any of Steve Earle's other records, but if I owned The Mountain I'd probably listen to it regularly.
