You're right about the similarities, there are definitely a number of parallels between the two shows in terms of style, characters and character relationships.

That's a valid argument. But you could just as easily say the Cosby Show was just Family Ties in a different setting.

I loved it. I see all sorts of potential with this show and I can't wait to see more episodes. Some of the details, such as angry community meetings, were spot on, and other details, such as the wall mural in the government building depicting an indian corpse, were only slightly exaggerated. Maybe it's too early to say this after only one episode, but I think Rashida Jones is a better fit for this show than The Office.

I'd participate in a Rush thread if one existed. You're probably right about how it'd turn out. The comments section of Rush is a Band blog is full of nothing but Rush worship, which is probably more annoying than a thread here with a bunch of bashing would be.

The other day I read a SXSW recap that said Captain Beefheart/Don Van Vliet joined PJ Harvey onstage for two songs at one of her gigs. I had not heard anything else about that, and I can't find anything on the internet about it. Is this BS? The article I read did not seem like an April Fools joke, but I assume it's a lie, or else it'd be all over the internet.

I've never heard them, but the cover of one of their songs on the recent Merge compilation is horrific, as is almost every other performance on there. That puts me somewhere in between. This is one of those bands that I would like to believe is going to kick my ass in a glorious way when I finally do hear them, but I'm skeptical. I've been burned too many times (most recently with Built to Spill).

I agree with this. I like all their albums up through Power Windows and to a lesser extent, Hold Your Fire, but the last one I think is solid all the way through is Grace Under Pressure. That one has a couple throwaways, but even those have fun grooves (maybe due to the influence of Police and Talking Heads, who Rush has said they were fans of), which is something that is lacking on the more recent stuff (maybe due to them currently being fans of a bunch of lame bullshit).

I think this is Rush's most overlooked song. Just amazing. I read somewhere that they relearned it (and a bunch of other tunes) for their most recent tour, but it didn't make the cut.
