  1. I have to add Concrete Blonde to my list. Horrible. The guy in front of me kept whipping me in the face with his greasy goth hair. That didn't help. Widespread Panic always bored me, but somehow I wound up seeing them seven or eight times during the HORDE era.
  2. Me too. My friend and I snuck in a camcorder which we wrapped in a plastic bag and placed on the bottom of a cooler (the venue allowed coolers). We videotaped the whole show and security didn't seem to care.
  3. Walt Mink Mike Watt and the Crew of the Flying Saucer Shakti Allman Brothers Shudder to Think
  4. I have a Blueridge BR 143. It's basically a copy of a Martin OOO type of guitar, I think. I'm very happy wth it. I think it would have cost $599 US, but I got it used with a case on a trade in deal. I think the used price was $475.
  5. I did not know that. Good for them. Touring is a pain in the ass.
  6. I have no idea, but I doubt it'd cost much to keep him on retainer. It's not like he was having to turn down high dollar offers over the last couple years. Anyway, as for the the Roots, it seems like they'll be ready to get back to being a regular band before too long and won't want to be anchored in one place. I think it'd be interesting if Fallon got an entirely new house band every season. I don't think a late night show has ever done that.
  7. Barry Gibb Talk Show. Having the Roots as the house band suggests to me that nobody is expecting this show to have longevity.
  8. This is obviously true, but it is an unfixable problem, so we'll have to work around it as long as possible.
  9. Battle of the gimmicky bands. Is Wayne still running around in a ball while santas and aliens dance on stage? Is the Arcade Fire guy still playinng drums on the other guy's helmeted head?
  10. Damn, I've had this album for years. It might be the most neglected album I own. I probably listened to it once about 15 years ago and put it away. I guess I bought it at the wrong time in my life...back when I was into things like Primus and Joe Satriani. I'll have to find my copy and check it out. EDIT: I just realized Phil Lesh is on this album. That's a major bonus. His playing on the Crosby album is stellar.
  11. I'd say Rat definitely matters. Bummer he won't be there. Who was the fourth member?
  12. Maybe this is a dumb question, but why is superglue ok for attaching a new nut?
  13. I like the Chattanooga Aquarium. I fell in love with my wife there...totally dropped the ball on the perfect opportunity for a first kiss, though. They don't have any salt water animals at that aquarium, do they? As for the layout, if I remember correctly, in Chatanooga you begin on one end and all traffic flows in the same direction towards the final exhibit, making it difficult to backtrack. The GA Aquarium has a center atrium surrounded by exhibits allowing you to choose where you want to go next, and it's easier to revisit an area if you want to take a second look. I prefer that
  14. In that case, you'll also want to see Ruby Falls. Make sure to take the incline railway. http://www.ridetheincline.com/
  15. Just yesterday I found out the friendly biker guy in my neighborhood has been practicing drums in his shed. Also yesterday, I ran into a neighbor at a Mexican restaurant who is selling his house. He told me a young couple has it under contract and they close in March. The husband, he says, is a musician who plays in a band. So that means there are at least two people within 100 yards of my house that I'll soon be able to jam with. Also, Wilco is playing on my birthday in Knoxville and I have tickets.
  16. Are these guys still around with the original lineup? I think they had a different drummer for a while, and I remember hearing about an unfortunate lawsuit between the band and Brian Ritchie. I saw them in 1990 or 1991. They were supposed to play at the Fox (a 5000 seater), but the show got downsized to the Roxy (a 1000 capacity general admission venue). Definitely a fun show. John Wesley Harding opened. I've never cared for what I've heard from him since then, but I enjoyed his set that night.

    New album news!

No, but I am concerned about what some RS mook considers "tasty". With RS's recent track record, if they like it it's probably pretty lame.

    New album news!

It is odd that the full band wasn't in NZ, but I'm sure they appreciated having some much needed time away from Wilco to work on their other projects.

    New album news!

Because by the time they got there it'd be two or three days later, and they'd be severely jet-lagged and the creative spurt may have passed. Anyway, they're more than capable of getting ecxellent results when they record their albums piecemeal.
  20. Having eaten my share of hot public school lunches, I'd rather have a cheese sandwich.
  21. Here's a youtube video demonstrating the pedal:
  22. Guitar Player magazine raved about that one and the Deluxe Reverb pedal. They said it was a pretty impressive approximation of the real deal.
