  1. Hey, sorry if anyone feels manipulated by the thread title. That wan't my intention. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I chose those words the other day (I guess I wasn't), but I did not intend disrespect. I can see how it appears (or IS) crass and/or manipulative. I apologize for that. No disrespect intended to Peart, Rutsey,Rush, anyone here or anyone else. I'll see if I can change it to something less lame...I don't think I know how to do that, though. Any help would be appreciated. Anyway, yeah Rutsey was a solid rock drummer with a great groove and a pretty badass single
  2. *Not Neil Peart http://www.rushisaband.com/ RIP John Rutsey.
  3. Every time I've seen WSP (numerous times during the '90s), their opening band blew them off the stage.
  4. I bought a pedal on ebay last year. It was in like-new condition and I was happy with the transaction. Keep in mind, the shipping on those things is surprisingly expensive. In my case, I only saved a couple dollars compared to buying a new pedal. Depending on the purchase price, and if the item is something you can still buy in a music store, you might be better off just buying a new one.
  5. Looks like Roseanne Cash, Suzanne Vega and some guy named Darrell Brown are also writing blogs like Andrew's. You can link to their blogs on the right side. http://measureformeasure.blogs.nytimes.com/
  6. Was there a theme last night? I tuned in when Cowell told the little hippy boy to pack his suitcase, at that point the show was almost over. I could not detect a theme based on the end-of-show recap.
  7. Now that you mention it, I think I heard that rumor a while back.
  8. Any news on who he'll have in his band? I'm assuming these aren't going to be solo shows. According to this, it looks like Marc Ribot will not be part of the Waits tour. http://www.marcribot.com/tour.jsp Maybe he'll use Duke Robillard again.
  9. YES!! Bigger venue than last time, and the nicest venue I've ever been to. The Fox is...BY A HUGE MARGIN...the best thing in Atlanta. Hopefully those dates have not been debunked by the official press conference.
  10. "Beware of Darkness" is the best song by a former Beatle. And as is par for the course, the best version is the cover by Leon Russell.
  11. I don't care what Ron Asheton says, Raw Power is the best Stooges album.
  12. I don't know about a lead guitar book, but this is a pretty cool music theory book: Edly's Music Theory for Practical People
  13. That's a nice looking guitar. Is yours stock or have you modified it? My friend has one with the moon inlays on the fretboard, but his came with a stop tailpiece and the uncovered humbuckers.
  14. Comparing Fenders and Gibsons is like somparing apples and oranges, as someone else stated. My previous comments were not intended to compare them as instruments, but rather to compare those lines in terms of quality relative to one another. Everyone knows that Squires are typically FAR lower in quality than US made Fenders. From what I have seen, the Gibson faded series is not all that much lower in quality than the standard Gibsons. With the faded series you could probably install new pickups and tuners and have a guitar that rivals just about ANY Gibson.
  15. The faded, though it is a lower end version is definitely higher in quality than a Squier. It's probably better quality than a Mex Fender. I'd probably compare it more along the lines of something like Fender's Highway One series (a cheaper US made Fender). A nice guitar, but with some cutting of corners. My friend who is a very experienced guitarist plays a faded SG and seems very happy with it.
  16. Eno's great. He was smart to hire Phil Collins. My first exposure to him was the "More Blank then Frank" best of album when I was in high school. It took me a long time to figure out if I liked it/him. Turns out I do. I saw the U2 Classic Albums dvd over the weekend. Not one of the better Classic Album installments, imo, but Eno's story about his multiple attempts (including sabotage) to get U2 to scrap their, in his mind, irreparably flawed version of "Where the Streets Have No Name" and start on a new version was very funny.
  17. Fair enough. Usually* when people say they'd pay big bucks they're referring to an action that will potentially lead to an ass kicking. *I say that from the perspective of living in Atlanta. A very violent place. back to thread topic... Tin Machine is the only great album David Bowie has released since 1983. Tin Machine 2 is the worst album anyone has released since 1883.
  18. So, Stef beats up strangers who express an opinion he disagrees with? He sounds awesome.
  19. I hear Norm McDonald could use some work.
