  1. I've only heard their album "Amassakoul", but I love it more every time I listen to it. I ordered the new one yesterday and expect it to be really good, too. You can see concert clips on You Tube.
  2. That might be because they've been playing venues that have curfews.
  3. Sort of. The "Olympic White" finish has turned yellow with age. I'd pobably go with the white one, assuming they are both in good working order. I like the look of the white pickups/tortoise-shell pickguard more than the black pickups/oyster-shell pickguard. Also, I already have a red Fender guitar.
  4. I wouldn't watch them if they played on MTV, but thats only because I don't have cable tv. As far as I'm concerned, they should agree to any and all gigs that they can stomach. Supporting their families is probably more important to them than some stranger's perception of their "cred".
  5. There's an astronaut on one of their shirts you can buy at the shows. Therefore, anything NASA related is Wilco related.
  6. I have that book, too. It's come in handy on several occaisions. For electric guitar parts it recommends Naptha lighter fluid as an all-purpose cleaner. I don't know what they recommend for cleaning or polishing acoustics, but I'll see what it says over the weekend.
  7. Let's not pretend there's any more shame in selling your songs to a car company than there is in jumping through all the hoops necessary to get radio play.
  8. Yeah, whoever wrote that is wrong. The rain poured straight down. That, in itself, is pretty unusual for Atlanta rain. If it had been windy the rain would have been coming down at an angle. I did not hear any thunder nor see any lightning.

    Low

No need to worry. It's not like you get strapped to your seat when the opening band starts. Of all the concerts I've been to that had opening bands, I'd say the opening band was enjoyable 10%-15% of the time. Generally speaking, the more I like a band, the more likely they are to have an opening band I'd rather not see.

    Low

I enjoyed their opening set in Atlanta. I'm probably somewhat biased, though. I had read the blurb from Nels' website a few years ago when I became a huge fan of his. That made me want to like them. I had not listened to them since reading about them on his site, but when I saw that they were the opening act at Chastain I made a point to get there on time and prepare myself for some quiet and slow music (I had an hour to kill before the show, so I went into the Border's near the venue and tried to sample their cds, but the cd reader wouldn't play them). I don't know what I would have tho
  11. Sounds like your friend was right next to me and my wife.

    Low

From Nels' website: > LOW: Things We Lost In The Fire (Kranky 046) Anyone who knows me probably knows how much I love this band. Scarnella has played shows with them, and their albums and concerts are always much-anticipated in our household. I first heard them when working on the Geraldine Fibbers' "Butch" session because Steve Fisk had just finished working with the band on "The Curtain Hits the Cast" (which may still be my favorite of theirs), and he played it for me. Low's music is not wild, it's not avant-garde. In fact, it's almost traditional. It's very, well, white. So
  13. I prefer these movies when it isn't painfully obvious who the "voice talent" is. I liked Madagascar pretty well, but I hated David Schwimmer's character because I couldn't forget that it was him. Same deal with the King of Queens guy in Barnyard. At least people like Steve Carrell (Over the hedge) and Andy Richter (Madagascar) made up voices different than what they're known for on their tv shows.
  14. That should be a really interesting recording. Hopefully it'll become available at some point.
  15. There was a taper about five rows in front of me. I was in Row 14 pit, so he was probably somewhere between row 8 and 10 next to the center aisle. He had a small umbrella above his mics that appeared to be sufficient during the light rain, but I think he probably put his recording gear away when the heavy rain started. Maybe he was able to record the whole show...who knows?
  16. I saw the 10 minute teaser expecting it to be great, and it was. These are the only kinds of movies I ever go to the theater for anymore.

    ATL Setlist

Go to the "After the Show" section for show reviews/setlists. Sorry I don't have a direct link for you.
  18. Awesome show. I hope everyone made it in and out of town without any trouble. Easily the rainiest concert I've'ever been to. I can still ring water out of the cash that was in my wallet. I enjoyed Low. I was not familiar with their music. I thought they were well received relative to other opening acts I've seen at Chastain.
  19. It's 4:24 and starting too look kind of gloomy outside (in Downtown). Looks like the rain is getting ready for it's obligatory appearance at the beginning of the evening commute. Now let's get it over with.
  20. Cool, that'd be a pretty good scenario since everyone agrees it IS going to rain at some point. According to this site: http://www.chastainseries.com/faq.php Umbrellas ARE allowed, but not golf (super-sized) umbrellas. This FAQ is specifically for Series concerts. The Wilco show is NOT a Series concert, but the umbrella rule should still be applicable. I have printed out that page, circled the part about umbrellas and intend to carry it with me in case I have any trouble bringing in my umbrella.
  21. Row D Orchestra (assuming that's row 4 of the Orchestra) is probably better than the back of the Pit since you'll be raised up a bit. So far there's been no rain in Downtown Atlanta (the same is probably true for the Chastain area). The radar map makes the storm look like it's moving REALLY slowly across Alabama. I don't know what to make of that.
  22. On the Chastain Park parking lot webcam you can see that the Harlem Globetrotters bus just pulled up. Those guys are always in the best seats when I go to Chastain. Sorry Sarah.
  23. To be optimistic (and hopefully exactly right), usually storms here start around 4:30...right when I leave work and get on the road , but they are TYPICALLY over by 7 or 8. Also, we usually don't have long-lasting downpours, as Sarah stated.
