I haven't seen or heard any Alice in Chains since they got their new singer, but I can vouch that he is a pretty badass singer and guitarist. He was in some good bands in Atlanta in the '80s and '90s. No Walls, Neon Christ, and a few others. The No Walls cd is worth tracking down.
  2. I'm hoping to see her again, but there's still no Atlanta date announced, which is becoming a troubling trend.
  3. Charles Bradley - The World is Going Up in Flames
  4. Keith Emerson, keyboardist for Emerson Lake and Palmer and The Nice, passed away last night. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment from both of those bands over the years (and also from punk, which was, in large part, a reaction against the prog rock Emerson and his peers were making.) It could be argued that Emerson and his peers were responsible for taking music away from and back to its basics. That's no mean feat. RIP Mr. Emerson. Sorry no link. This forum won't let me post links anymore.
  5. ^ Yeah, this'll be my 4th time seeing them. Always a great show. I've never seen Quilt. I have mixed feelings about them, but I'm hoping to be won over.
  6. 99+% of them. Who else are they going to vote for?
  7. Nah, the GOP isn't going anywhere. There's no ride republicans won't take with their leaders, no matter how absurd, dangerous, and un-American. There is no indication at all that the GOP, or republican voters have a bottom upon which to bottom out. The last 15 years has demonstrated that very clearly.
  8. I'm sure there are a lot of people salivating over a Trump VP slot. My money is on Trump (if he becomes president) quitting before his first term is up. He's in this to win, not to serve. Obviously. Which means Trump's VP gets to be president.
  9. I Lost It - > Drunken Angel duet with John.
  10. I always liked Tom Petty's show. Is he still doing that? Andrew Loog Oldham was entertaining sometimes, too.
  11. Same here. Let's just hope Trump doesn't choose Cruz as a running mate, then win, then quit, making Cruz president. To my mind, there is nothing implausible about this scenario.
  12. I like Richard Thompson a great deal, but he's done plenty of boring music.
  13. ^^Agreed. I used to have Sirius and I got rid of it in large part because when they played older artists they rarely played their better material.
  14. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the Star Wars material once the next album comes out.
  15. I've never really followed Widespread Panic, aside from seeing them a couple times on the HORDE tour, but Jimmy Herring is surely one of the best guitarists out there.
  16. Have you tried a Traynor YCV20? I used to have one, and I regret letting it go. It had an amazing sound. Not sure if it's what you're after, but if you get a chance to try one out, I say go for it. I'd be tempted to trade my Deluxe Reverb for another one, but I've learned that trying to replace gear that I regret getting rid of usually doesn't work.
  17. Well, that was an absolutely friggin insane and joyous experience. I'm not really into metal, but there's a vibe amongst metal fans (or maybe just Voivod fans....maybe it's the Canada thing) that is very different than anything I've experienced at a concert. And whatever it is, it exists between the band and audience, too. Before they left the stage at the end of their encore they spent several minutes giving handshakes, hugs, high fives, etc to the fans. I've seen musicians do this before (Mike Watt comes to mind), but never anything close to this. Inspiring!
  18. Voivod. Never been to a metal show, so this should be pretty weird.
  19. I decided to buy myself a few musical toys this month. I got a Pignose amp, which has been a lot of fun, and much easier/quicker than plugging into a "real" amp. Also, it's much more suitable for my living arrangements than using even my lowest powered real amp. I also got a ride cymbal that I'm happy with. I've been playing drums since the '80s and I've never had a ride cymbal that I was completely happy with, or that was versatile enough to cover different music styles. I got a 22" Dream "Energy" ride. Dream is a new-ish cymbal company that is significantly cheaper than the well known
  20. I was there last night, but not the first night. I thought the show was fantastic. The audience was much better than is normal for an Atlanta show. The band was clearly having fun. Having front row seats on the balcony gave me a clear view of what everyone was doing, and watching all the shit Glenn does was mind boggling.
