  1. I was born in 1972. I remember Lennon's death pretty vividly. Anything newsworthy that predates that didn't make it onto my radar. After that, I remember Mondale/Ferraro, and the LA Olympics.
  2. Some Terrapin Station demos/work tapes have surfaced. http://liveforlivemusic.com/news/demo-recordings-from-the-grateful-deads-terrapin-station-sessions-have-surfaced-listen/
  3. What is your dividing line with Phish? They kind of fell of my radar after Hoist. I need to revisit their music.
  4. Big Thief: Masterpiece. I discovered them earlier this week via NPR, then I saw this tweet about them from Jeff Tweedy, "Great guitars, great lyrics, great melodies, ❤️! What more could you possibly want?" Looks like I'm in good company, and my musical tastes are vindicated. I read this morning that they finished recording their second album before their first album was released. Hopefully that means they've got a promising future. Another recent discovery is Margaret Glasper. Some of her songs are really great, and her guitar playing is on point, but she hasn't completely won me ove
  5. I get everything the Dead did mixed up after Brent Mydland joined the band.
  6. I can't find the setlist for the Weir/Wasserman show I saw, but it was 8/6/92 at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta. I remember them playing Misty, and maybe Saint of Circumstance...or Victim or the Crime. I get those two mixed up. Pretty sure they played Spoonful, too. Cockburn definitely opened. Not sure if Michelle Shocked was there.
  7. I forgot Wasserman was on Lou Reed's New York. That is one of my all time favorite albums. I got to see him with Bob Weir in the early '90s at a large amphitheater. Weird venue for a duo performance. Nowhere near intimate enough, but I remember both of them delivering strong performances..
  8. Joe Perry says in Guitar World magazine that the announcement of their demise is premature.
  9. Bernie Worrell and Ralph Stanley passed last week. I would say those two are equally influential in their respective genres.
  10. I don't think Bernie was with P-Funk any of the times I saw them, but I got to see him as part of the Jack Bruce/Ginger Baker band in 1990 or 1991. That was one of the most memorable shows I've ever been to.
  11. Republicans think shutting off CSPAN cameras is going to stop people from seeing what is happening.
  12. I hope y'all are excited to see Big Head Todd & the Monsters for free every time they come to town for the rest of your lives.
  13. Yeah, only GA tickets, and only in Live Nation venues. That's a massive limitation and is just as scammy as what they're in trouble for doing.
  14. I didn't know about the Amazing. I'll check them out. And that comp looks interesting, too. Thanks for the recommendations. There are two Life on Earth records now. I've only heard the second one once, but it was good, A bit more improvisational than the first one if memory serves.
  15. I enjoyed that. Thanks for posting. I don't believe I've ever heard them sing in English, either. Closest I've come to that is the bass player's side project, Life on Earth, which is a band that is well worth checking out if you like Dungen.
  16. Hopefully this will lead to the resurgence of mix tapes made for crushes. CD or MP3 mixes aren't the same. Cassette mix tapes were an art form when done right.
  17. I couldn't be happier for Nels, and I'm looking forward to hearing the realization of a dream he's held for so long.
  18. We Gotta Get Out of This Place: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War Found in the book exchange in a cruise ship library. It's been quiet a good read.
  19. I know lots of Clinton supporters. I've yet to meet one who denies she's a flawed candidate. In fact, I've never met any democrat or democrat supporter who has ever felt their candidate was flawless.
  20. I wish that would happen just to see the reaction from the #NeverHillary crowd.
  21. Adopting views that suit the desires of the populace (within reason) is the definition of representative democracy.
