  1. Left-wing violence in this country died out with the Weather Underground, except for those people who hassle the cops at WTO meetings.
  2. I would say all health insurance should be provided by not-for-profits, but being an NFP did not stop my HMO from raising our rates like 30 percent.
  3. This, in the NYT Saturday, made me want to cry. Playtime Is Over By DAVID ELKIND Medford, Mass. RECESS is no longer child’s play. Schools around the country, concerned about bullying and arguments over the use of the equipment, are increasingly hiring “recess coaches” to oversee students’ free time. Playworks, a nonprofit training company that has placed coaches at 170 schools from Boston to Los Angeles, is now expanding thanks to an $18 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Critics have suggested that such coaching is yet another example of the over-schedulin
  4. On my end, it was not all it was cracked up to be. Being in a totally non-school sanctioned underground newspaper was the most important educational experience I had there, and we did that our own damn selves, though the school has to be credited for being a mildly oppressive force for us to rebel against.
  5. Ha - that explains why they were willing to trade Francoeur for Ryan Church.
  6. Obama has made it so the employer has to now pick up 65 percent of the COBRA costs (which are the full, non-subsidized costs of the health insurance policy) for a certain time period. I think that is still in effect.
  7. That would be how the GOP does so well, even though more people are registered Democrats - discipline and better turnout at the polls.
  8. Good post, A-man.You know, I don't think of myself as one, but I suppose I am a professional photographer, as taking pictures is something I do as part of my work as editor of a weekly newspaper. Photography is both like an art and like a sport - there is a real, tangible thrill when one takes a good pic, and it is a lot of fun trying to get them, which I think explains why people like taking pictures at rock concerts. That said, the pursuit of a good shot should absolutely not interfere with anyone else's enjoyment of the show, and I don't blame the band for trying to regulate the taking of p
  9. Hey, who ended up winning that game?
  10. Seeing how close the plan is to Mitt Romney's plan, I think Mitt Romney's feelings will be hurt by you calling a plan like his a turd.
  11. For a libertarian, you're kinda pushy, dude. Dude, I love you, but I think you would be a much happier person if you developed a sense of humor, at least when responding to my posts.
  12. Well, I guess Somalia it is. Just don't tell 'em about all the black people.
  13. Oh, like they would fit in there. Maybe Argentina is a better choice. Oh, but they speak Spanish! How inconvenient. Australia?
  14. Fables will always be linked with the summer after I graduated from high school. Murmur is more of a springy album to me.
  15. Oh man. One of the true, true greats.
  16. Are they remastering any of the original tracks, or is this just a reissue, do you know?
  17. The "all for you" part after all of the D-Day imagery at the end of that one song is killer!
  18. I try, but I find that modern production techniques (i.e., sounding like it WASN'T recorded on a boom box in somebody's basement) tend to erode the experience for me.
  19. My grandfather got shot in the ass at Guadalcanal, but he died (last year, not as a result of the ass-shooting), so he won't be watching it either.
  20. My little homie Joey Mazzello is in this, but since I am too poor to afford HBO, I am not watching this.
  21. Man, you are like the Ernesto "Che" Guevara of Daylight Savings Time. ¡Hasta la Victoria Siempre!
