  1. If Morrissey can do it, so can they. I am a little ashamed to say that I never picked up Neon Bible.
  2. At least you don't have to worry about the gas pedal.
  3. Man. I think I will probably spray this on everything I own, and myself as well.
  4. Here is a good, even-handed explanation of the issues involved and their history: http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/01/what-is-the-first-amendment-for/?8ty&emc=ty
  5. I think my last post will be my cover of "Theologians."
  6. Thank you, Neil. I get overexcited when I use military metaphors.
  7. Well, I got a rep for upholding Godwin's Law. If you like, you can read it as, "It's like opening a newspaper on Aug. 5, 1914, and saying, 'Hey, it'll be OK. The Belgians have guns, too, just like the Germans.'" Here's the whole transcript for the Moyers, in case anyone is interested. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/01292010/transcript1.html
  8. I see your point, and you see it from a perspective that I can't. A panelist on Bill Moyers, Monica Youn, the other night had this to say: "“The marketplace of ideas doesn’t give anyone, any corporation or any individual, the right to buy an election. The First Amendment is an important part of our Constitution, but so is the idea that this is a democracy. This is a society based on the idea of one person – one vote, and our elections should not be marketplaces. They should be about voters. They should be about helping the electorate make an informed decision, and the electorate is not going t
  9. I know! I shoulda gotten the kid Risk for Christmas.
  10. That's the deontological approach. I am taking the utilitarian approach, saying that in this case, the potential for abuse and bad things happening if one stays to the moral absolute of allowing any person or personlike entity unfettered donation powers is so great, the absolute should not be held to.
  11. I don't know if I would go that far, but I will endorse it as one of the best (probably THE best) renderings of the pissed-off teenage mind ever.
  12. It did, but omits the fact that for-profits have a lot more money to throw around, so any sort of balancing effect will not, in my estimation, be observed.
  13. Ryan competed with Jim McAndrew and Don Cardwell at the bottom of the Mets' rotation.
  14. Props for the Gentry reference. Ryan was not really that great with the Mets, it bears remembering, though that's where he got his ring. He did pitch well in the 1969 postseason - including a seven-inning victory in relief of Gentry - and showed some promise, but couldn't get in to what was then a four-man rotation.
  15. Oh, pshaw. I totally got it on with a die-hard Yankees fan a few weeks ago.
  16. That's about as excited I would be if Smoltz became a Met. Actually, the more accurate emoticon would be:
  17. I am not really sure what you are saying. Personally, I am not that twisted up over what Alito said, and personally, I hope the recent decision becomes a rallying point to force real campaign finance reform and raises awareness of the pervasive and corrupting effect corporate money has (and will increasingly have) on politics.
  18. Roe v. Wade hasn't been politicized? EVER?
  19. Oh, man. I can only imagine.
