I think The Jayhawks, Early Son Volt, Early Wilco and Uncle Tupelo go hand in hand! I feel like each one is a piece of this giant alt-country-rock puzzle.
-
The Jayhawks are solid and I believe Gary Louris is one of the finest songwritters of our time. I have been a Jayhawks fan probably since 1992 or 3 when I bought Hollywood Townhall as a 12 year old. I have known them more than half my life! Anyhoo wanted to see what are your favorite songs and albums by the Jayhawks. Mine are as follows 1. Hollywood Town Hall 2. Tomorrow The Green Grass 3. The Sound of Lies 4. Blue Earth 5. Smile 6. Rainy Day Music Favrote Songs 1. Settled Down Like Rain 2. Clouds 3. Over My Sholder 4. Nothing Left To Borrow 5. 5 Cups of Coffee 6. Miss Williams Guitar 7. O

How did you come by your VC Handle?
remphish1 replied to bigshoulders's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Mine is a boring story but oh well. I was 14 when m yfamily got our first aol account. I was 14 and couldn't think of anything better so I combined my two favortie band names at the time REM and Phish. REM is still my favorite but Phish may not even be in my top 50 anymore. I refuse to change my name though because I am sentimentally attached to that snapshot of my life at the time. -
My oh my Wilco has to play NYC again! They have to also play Too Far Apart and Pieholden when they come here!
-
The Drones should join Wilco on stage for Less Than You Think!
-
I see what you are saying Matt. I probably missed the boat by oh 10 years on this one.

I bought it. Listened to it about 3 times. Nothings clicked yet. It is ok so far but I was expecting more.

Another Reason Why Living In Chicago Is Awesome
remphish1 replied to sureshot's topic in Someone Else's Song
I don't know much about Local H but that is awesome! Especially since they have a B-sides and Rarities night! Oye if only R.E.M. and Radiohead would do this ( I would go anywhere in N. America, Europe or Asia to see either of these!!!!!) -
I went to the travel show at the Javitz Center in NYC where I attended some seminars which I found very interetsing. I saw Rick Steves talk about Europe. He has a cynical view on America Tourist and how obnoxios they were. I found that funny becuase he seems so laid back on tv. The gist of his speach though was to go of the beaten path and see the real Europe not the Europe you see from a 4 star hotel. Anyway afterwords he did a question and answer and book signing. I asked him about if he travels anywhere for pleasure outside of Europe. He said he doesn't and really he doesn't have any desire

I don't think they like NYC..How many shows did they do in NYC since 2000? Wilcobase isn't working for me now. I would guess less than 7 (2 Radio City, MSG, Irving, Hammerstein and Warsaw)? Considering the NYC metro area has 20+ residence that's not many...

Want to talk about a grower? Some people still don't like AM?!

Between Slate, Hanging Blue Slide, Creosote and Out of the Picture I was smiling from ear to ear. Jay sounded great and I had a good time. Catch him if you can on this tour! The show: The Picture Gramophone Bandages No Rolling Back Big Sur (from the Kerouac project. Awesome.) Methamphetamine Highways & Cigarettes Creosote (yes he played it) Slate (yes he played it) Barstow Cocaine and Ashes (Jay's introduction: "This is a new song about Keith Richards snorting his father") Out Of The Picture (yes he played it) World Waits For You Damn Shame (with new slower intro. At t
