Listen, I grew up in his district. I live in his district. Those are the things he's known for. Many times you're not known for the best things that you do no matter who you are. When I read about the Hyde amendment I thought "Oh yeah, that was him." I didn't think "Oh man, what a bastard." -

Those are the two things he's most known for. -
I think he was kidding about the first-name basis part. It's also very possible that he did sing happy birthday to Jeff--depending on how much absinthe and champagne he'd had.

I think I heard the same NPR story as cryptique. He'll be able to come back as a lobbyist more quickly this way. That seems the most logical explanation.

That's neat. Can I ask what community you're applying to? -
Lebron James is putting up some serious numbers. He looks like he's lost a little weight.

A Democratic fundraiser wouldn't necessarily have to be for a specific candidate.

Anyone look up how many grains of rice are in one cup? It takes a while to get there, but there are much worse ways to spend your time on the internets.

I am definitely ready to hit the panic button on the Bulls. In their other slow starts under Skiles they at least seemed competitive in the some of the games they lost. At this point they're getting blown out by mediocre and bad teams.

Wasn't BJ Ryan's deal bigger? Re Cordero: He's in the neutral range as far as groundball/flyball ratio, but he's closer to being a flyball pitcher. -
How popular is your last name?

Yes, we keep french males from reproducing and/or make their offspring take their mother's names if their mother is a good anglo (not saxon). -
It's a running gag.

I LIKE NELS CLINE AND GENERALLY THINK THAT WILCO HAS UNDER-UTILIZED HIS TALENTS BY PUTTING OUT A SOFT-ROCK RECORD. KICKING TELEVISION (tHE ALBUM) IS GOOD, THOGH.

This guy's a much less sympathetic figure, but the classification of tasers as non-lethal force seems questionable: http://www.bnd.com/326/story/181348.html

I saw Southland Tales last night. I really enjoyed it, but the response of my friends was mixed. I thought it was a wonderful piece of cinematic nonsense. The reviews seem split over the film's incoherence. I never thought it aspired to mean much or had a central thesis--instead it had a jumble of ideas and plot threads. It was supposed to be absurd. A film with no heroes and no meaning might amount to some of the best commentary on our times. The experience was made a little more surreal by the long butt-rock (I just looked it up...3 Doors Down) music video recruiting for the National Guard
