  1. Well, what can I really say about this one? Apparently I keep track at home, go to a lot of shows, love Hummingbird and sing along, among other things... :ninja My own "role" notwithstanding, and hopefully it was good for a chuckle or three, Night 2 at the Fillmore was a relatively loose affair. Once again built around songs from the soon-to-be released Wilco Schmilco, the set also featured a number of different older songs than Night 1. Surely the set will be deemed not different enough by some out there in the peanut gallery (or God forbid, not having enough "bust outs") but I thought it
  2. Omg, really? Are you the proverbial "asshole in Des Moines?" Jeff referenced in that recent Consequence of Sound interview? I mean they are showcasing songs from Wilco Schmilco, so I suspect the shell of the sets are gonna be pretty similar, but they've definitely opened up the repertoire quite a bit the past few shows (and will probably continue doing so in SF). What were you expecting, exactly? Yeesh.
  3. Do tell! (But take your time because I'm going back to bed.) I guess you probably did like SF quite well despite the foot labor required (and not resting on your laurels). I know the San Franciscans we both know eagerly await your return...saw a few of them last night!
  4. Parking this thread for now...with comments to come. OK, just for Herr Tatlock (and whomever else might be interested), here are le promised comments... Well, another Wilco residency is upon us — the first of this length that the band has ever done outside of Chicago, I'm pretty sure — and, as usual, it will be highly interesting to see how this one turns out after getting a baseline of sorts on Night 1. While there might not necessarily be quite as much variety this time, given the likely showcasing of songs from Wilco Schmilco each night, it should nonetheless feature a number of tunes
  5. I wasn't there myself, unfortunately, but it looks like the stripped-down Schmilco tour is officially underway! Will be interesting to see how things evolve. Perhaps someone who was there can report more on the stage setup (a picture that was sent to me showed Glenn, Mike and Pat all playing without their usual risers, for example, and that big cabinet amp that Jeff has used the past year is gone — as expected). Anyway, from a photo of the printed setlist, it looks like here's what was played (yay Pick Up The Change!): If I Ever Was A Child Cry All Day Misunderstood The Joke Explained Someon
  6. Yep. You can email me at thevalet [at] gmail .
  7. Not publicly, to my knowledge. Jeff has played it during at least one living room show.
  8. Those, and comedy podcasts, are the new indie rock.
  9. Yeah, I was kinda secretly hoping for that big cabinet to go away because when you're on the John/Pat side, you can forget Mike is even up there! Thanks for the reporting. You always seem to make it to the Red Butte/SLC show...do you have family out there or anything? Just wondering. Anyway, I won't be able to make it until SF on this run so it'll be interesting to see what happens the next couple of nights. I don't know the Boise venue, but if it's outside like Red Butte, I'm guessing a similar show to this one. Then Seattle and Portland, which are indoors, should be interesting...
  10. This thread, and all of people's reactions not even to the new record itself but just *the reviews of the new record*, make me understand why Jeff so enjoyed the way Star Wars was released. Yeesh!
  11. Aww...bummer. (Fwiw, though, I bet that parking pass will be pretty in demand. )
  12. Not sure what the deal with Wilco Schmilco is but I heard the vinyl of Nels' record was delayed because he rejected two test pressings. Personally I'd rather wait a little longer and get the best possible pressing. Too much new vinyl these days has quality control issues, IMHO.
  13. I've got an extra orchestra single for the Wednesday 9/14 show at the Ace Hotel if anyone is interested. Just looking for face value, which was basically $75 including fees. Let me know...either by replying here or e-mailing me at thevalet [at] gmail .
  14. Of course they're gonna mix it up. I won't say they will play no repeats for five nights, but having seen the band a handful of times, I can say with reasonable certainty that there will be some variety in the Fillmore setlists. A more interesting question, perhaps, is whether there will be five different posters or just one for the entire residency?
  15. Trey bangerz sounds good to me (but maybe I just have sausages or rappers on the brain)...
  16. You would have preferred triad? Or trio? Triumvirate, perhaps?
  17. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the Harris is where the band held its aftershow reception for guests. I mean, imagine how many guests the band must have had to accommodate for such a big show in its "hometown."
  18. I'm sure plenty of folks will chime in eventually, and maybe I will add more too, but as Jeff basically said in his radio interview with the Current prior to Saturday's Minneapolis show, this is the setlist he has come up with that he feels works best for a big outdoor show and the band is pretty much sticking to it for the time being (though as Jeff also alluded to in the interview, that could end as soon as they start playing more intimate indoor shows starting next month). In any case, there weren't many surprises for those who have been following the band's recent performances — although
  19. Somewhat of a formality in posting the setlist here, since the show was live streamed, but anyway it turned into a lovely night after some intermittent sprinkles. And a pretty fun show, too, that ended up stretching to nearly two hours and 20 minutes. Here was the complete setlist, as played (there were no changes from the printed list): More... Random Name Generator The Joke Explained I Am Trying To Break Your Heart> Art Of Almost Pickled Ginger Hummingbird Handshake Drugs Cold Slope> King Of You Via Chicago> Spiders (Kidsmoke) (electric arrangement) If I Ever Was A Child Jesus,
  20. I don't ever trust Setlist.fm to be totally accurate, but I guess it's better than nothing. Anyway, I would bet almost anything they flip-flopped If I Ever Was A Child and Jesus, etc. in the above list. One good thing about a relatively static setlist is that you know where stuff usually tends to go, and in this current one, everywhere else at least, Jesus has immediately followed Spiders followed by the two Schmilco songs back-to-back. Also, I'm guessing they didn't follow up Red-Eyed>I Got You with the "Sesame Street" Outta Mind (Outta Sight) but rather the rockin' Outtasite (Outta Mind
  21. Slacker Wisconsinites..:would it kill you to take a few notes? Just kidding (kinda). Thanks for your post, Ms. (or is it Mrs.?) Stone. Glad you enjoyed the show and for those who like to bitch and moan about setlist variety and the like, it's always worth remembering that there are far more people who only get to see the band once or twice every couple of years if they're lucky. I've been thinking lately that there's no way to make all your fans happy all the time. So you try to appeal to the most people you can as often as you can. That might not be the strategy that makes Wilco a "cool"
