Neil especially has some bad tribute cds. Nice to hear some good covers - although some of those (dala) rub me the wrong way. on to Boris

I too am addicted to that thing. So much so that I ended up buying a vinyl copy with the 'get turntable fixed' still an item way down on the to-do list. About the only thing that bugs me is the cheesecake on the cover. I mean, like, why?

Thermals Daytrotter sessions. Love this band.

Bought. Can't wait for this show!

I dunno. The niece from Immaculate Machine is very good. But, you're right no one could fill in for Bejar. Still, whatever one usually gets from this band is typically superb.

Weakerthans - Plea From a Cat Named Virtute Why don't you ever wanna play? I'm tired of this piece of string. You sleep as much as I do now, and you don't eat much of anything. I don't know who you're talking to, I made a search through every room, but all I found was dust that moved in shadows of the afternoon And listen, about those bitter songs you sing; they're not helping anything, they won't make you strong. So we should open up the house, invite the Tabby two doors down. You could ask your sister if, she doesn't bring her basset hound. Ask the things you shouldn't miss: tape hiss

Cool! Think I'm gonna try to get some presale tickets for this http://thenewpornographers.ducatking.com/ TO will sell out pretty quick.

Mr Bop, go search youtube for 'Andre Ethier O Canada'. Andre the Deadly Snake sang the national anthem as Andre the outfielder looked on from the dugout.
-
You are soo f'ing lucky. I don't know if he's touring with most of the Deadly Snakes, but if he is, well, you are so f'ing, f'ing lucky.

I think these guys are my favourite band.

REM Tour dates With National and Modest Mouse
lizish replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I don't they are. They didn't sell out Molson amp with Wilco in 99 and last time through they certainly didn't play the hockey arenas that U2 and Radiohead add dates for. They're always fun though, even if the last three records could be condensed into one ok cd. -
No. Not. Really. I've had most of the albums over the years and it ALWAYS comes down to the Isbell songs. Outfit, Decoration Day, Danko/Manuel, Daylight, those were the ones that made an impression. Without Isbell, they seem impressionless.
-
Strange, never thought that I'd be bored by one of their releases. Dislike intensely yes, but be bored by, no. To write off the record because Isbell isn't there is a pretty facile thing to do, but perhaps its correct. Sorry, don't mean to cause a reaction with this post, the DBTs will just never be my thing. 'Bob ain't light in the loafers He might kneel but he never bends over' uugh.

It's funny, I've been talking to her Mom more than her. We met at an instore where set-up issues kept the band from performing, so I just introduced myself to a woman who sorta looked like Basia and we talked about having grown up daughters. It also gave me a chance to learn how to pronounce 'Bash-a'. Paul - and of course that that is absolutely ok and I think she can now recognize me as not just some cartoon avatar on myspace.

Last night was solo, which is kinda strange becuase half the band is in residence at the local college. She said that the April Canadian dates will be full band - but I'm sorry, I did not ask about the American tour. Hope you get the full treatment. Lots of cd copies at the merch table. I wanted to buy a T-shirt or something, thinking its like putting money straight into her pocket, but there was nothing there. Those nasty Hayden people had the table covered.... actually Hayden was pretty incredible with Bash-a joining him for an encore

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward = She & Him
lizish replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
Think the movie is called 'The Go-getter' Thanks for that new song link! Ripper. Press release on the thing: She & Him Volume 1 March 18, 2008 She & Him is a story of musical serendipity. Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward first met in 2006 for a movie soundtrack project in which they recorded a version of Richard and Linda Thompson's "When I Get To The Border". While in the studio, they were immediately struck by one another's talents and found an instant rapport. During a conversation about their shared love of old records, Zooey let slip that she wrote her own songs, which she
