  1. I describe it as drinking a Dunkel out of an ashtray. That's not entirely accurate, but it's definitely smoky. If you like smoked porter, you should like the Schlenkerla. Great German maltiness and a bit of smoke. Here's their website. I'm gonna say "smoke" again, just for the smoke of it.
  2. What the hell is shucking cornstalks?
  3. "Casino Queen," while it's a lot of fun and a pretty damn good song, is a valid comparison point, I think, when you're talking about lyrical evolution/devolution.
  4. After having finally pulled it together enough to actually read this review, I can't say I find a whole lot of fault with his analysis, despite the fact that I clearly like the album more than the reviewer does. I would have substituted "Handshake Drugs" for "At Least That's What You Said" for the soft-rock-plus-solos comparison, and he's probably projecting his expectations a little, but overall I thought it was pretty accurate.
  5. Oh, I cannot wait to see the responses to this one.
  6. Actually, I just clicked "ok," then hit the back button, and it registered my signature without requiring a donation. Give it a shot. edit: there you go.
  7. Ditto, plus, they really should have used "flouted" rather than "flaunted."
  8. Yeah, the association of music publishers doesn't want to adapt to allow people to steal their product. ASSHOLES! Really. If she couldn't pay the penalty for knowingly breaking the law, then I think she probably would have been better served by not breaking the law.
  9. Granted, not every artist who did Unplugged has been (Springsteen), and of course, it's recorded, so there's electricity happening. But using tape machines and loops and synths is about as plugged as you can possibly get. The show's called "MTV Unplugged," not "MTV Different." Try a harmonium and a hurdy-gurdy.
  10. I had the pleasure of seeing Olivia Hussey's boobs in Franco Zefirelli's Romeo & Juliet in class at least twice by the end of my sophomore year, thanks to R&J being part of freshman English in Texas and sophomore English in Virginia. I don't think anyone minded, but I'm pretty sure we had to sign permission slips both times.
  11. You do know what "unplugged" implies, right?
  12. I thought dry beer was the shit when I was in high school. It tasted like peanuts.
  13. It is so fucking fun to read people react to unflattering Wilco reviews. Someone get me some popcorn.
  14. I think the hate refers to the website about Rachel Ray, which I also think is way over the top and completely unnecessary. As for Paul McCartney's comment about Rachel's appearance, he's entitled to his opinion, and didn't express any hatred as far as I can tell.
