  1. They've been pretty big for at least the last 30 years. I remember watching Dunkin Donuts commercials (time to make the donuts!) when I was a kid in Clarksville, Tennessee. Which is pretty far from New England.
  2. He didn't say "Clinton," he said "the last 15 years," which, oddly enough, roughly coincides with the Republican House of Representatives (1994) and the Neoconservative surge that followed. So he may not be making a dig at the Dems at all, although who knows...

  4. If that's you in your picture there, you look kind of like Yassir Arafat.
  5. How many people here at ViaChicago are planning to buy this book, regardless of its content?
  6. I'm not sure how that has any bearing on whether or not he stood to make money either way.
  7. My first thought as well.
  8. I'm sorry, I wasn't listening. Happy birthday, fucking fascist.
  9. I still don't understand how comparing Bob Dylan's 29th (or whatever) dreamstudio album with Wilco's fourth (etc.) is any kind of valid comparison. I'm not sure there is a fair comparison to be made.
  10. Josh Brolin was great in Goonies, though, huh?
  11. That's coincidental, not ironic.
  12. It's true, in the sense that they both have hair.
  13. I thought the best part was Control Number: 8675309EIEIN
  14. What, exactly, makes that the "fair" comparison?
  15. I'm not going to argue with you in this thread about whether this is a semantic distinction or not. Vibes to the Kennedy family.
  16. I didn't say it wasn't tragic. I said it didn't strike me as particularly tragic. Ted Kennedy has had 45 years in politics to make his mark, and he has created quite a legacy for himself. Had he died before the age of 50 like his brothers, before he was able to fulfill his potential (whatever you feelings on whether he did or not), I would consider that tragic. Old people get sick; to me it's much less tragic than it is just sad.
  17. Is it tragic that a 76 year old man has been diagnosed with a possibly terminal illness? Sad, certainly, and no doubt devastating to his family, but it doesn't strike me as particularly tragic. He's lived a long life and had the opportunity to do more things than most. Lots of people don't make through their fifties.
  18. Live baby octopus on one table, collected works of Richard Dawkins on another table. House is on fire and you can only save one. Go!
  19. It's probably a good thing PopTodd's friend Josh the sommelier didn't ask you to accompany him. You really dodged a bullet there!
