Wilco in Quebec in July?

Recommended Posts

Joel Plaskett is really great. Another east coaster whom nobody outside the region seems to know much about is Al Tuck. Have you ever heard any of his stuff or seen him play? I've had a handful of opportunities to catch his show, but it always shakes down that I miss him for some reason or other. His new album My Blues Away has been getting a lot of spins lately in my house.

I'm from Cape Breton Island..about 5 hours from Halifax.

I visited Cape Breton Island a few years ago and loved it! It's such a beautiful place (and I have very high standards for scenery, living in BC) and the people are a blast - so funny and open.

And I'll never forget the Lick-A-Chick. :ermm :lol

Joel is my favourite artist from the east coast...and Al is great too. I've only seen Al once, at a Joel Plaskett and friends show last year. He IS really great. He's on a few of Joel's earlier albums as "the doctor". Have you seen Joel's new DVD?? It's wicked. He's currently in Australia opening for Russel Crowe's band. He's playing here in June..can't wait!

Glad you enjoyed it here. The Lick-A-Chick..heh. Atleast once a summer I go there for some grub and then run across the street to the Lick-A-Treat for a delish ice cream :P

Joel Plaskett is awesome... he came to Windsor last year and played in a little box called Phog (this is usually where Elliott Brood plays too)... it was great, very intimate, and I was able to shake his hand afterwards and tell him he rocks.

I'm happy you folks out east are happy.

Dates like these make sense; recently it seems Wilco doesn't do "tours" so much as play places if that makes any sense. So I don't know if there will be a Canadian tour - but there might. Anyway, there have been 2 shows in Montreal since the latest record and 2 in Toronto. That means they owe Ottawa one visit at least.

And some Tweedy solo shows at some summer festivals (Bluesfest, Hillside) would really be fantastic!

Ottawa bluesfest lineup is being announced tomorrow (April 26th). I will go out on the limb and predict that wilco will be on the bill as part of the final weekend of the festival...

I am playing a show with Al tomorrow night in Toronto at Clinton's. My band is playing and I am also sitting with Al for his set...Ben Gunning, formerly of the Local Rabbits is also on the bill. Then this coming weekend we are taking it to the studio for what will hopefully be a new al tuck record.

al and joel are two of the best songwriters in Canada...plain and simple.

also, i haven't read anything further that this in this thread but in case it hasn't been mentioned yet, Wilco are playing Halifax and Fredericton in July...the promoter leaked the info on certain web boards in eastern Canada just yesterday.

Dennis, that's great..I'm sure it'll be a wicked show. I haven't listened to any Local Rabbits, but I saw Pete Elkas a few times when he toured with Joel last year. Would love to hear a new Al Tuck record! Have a great show :cheers

thanks dude...i'm sure it'll be great. i know a lot of people who would like a new al tuck record. have you heard 33/13 (aka - my blues away) if not...seriously, it's fantastic. in my opinion, it's the best al tuck record there is to date.

let me tell you though. the new songs are sounding sweet. i've had the pleasure of playing them with him over the last few days and they are great. very al, lyrically.

i like mr elkas quite a lot. he's due for a new album too.

Wilco hitting Atlantic Canada. this is fantastic

i've never seen a show at either venue but it should be great

the fredericton venue sounds tiny so this should be really cool to see

Neither have I..but an outdoor show one night..and a small one the next..what more could we ask for?!

:dancing - Good guess Ottawateeth! Wilco closes main stage Saturday, July 15!!! :cheers

Also on the bill, July 11 - Son Volt. Calexico on the 7th. Great Lake Swimmers, New Pornographeres, Controller Controller, Hammell on Trial, Mark Kozelek, Bell Orchestre, Roseanne Cash, Fiery Furnaces, Metric, Feist, Broken Social Scene, Elliot Brood. Nuts!!!

Lots of other stuff too of course, but some great names this year.
