Analogman
BOB DYLAN & HIS BAND Jimmie Vaughan w/ Lou Ann Barton Junior Brown plus Elana James & The Continental Two NEW YORK, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bob Dylan Show has just announcedthe third annual tour of America's minor league baseball parks. In the pasttwo years, nearly a half-million fans have enjoyed a night under the starswith The Bob Dylan Show. The acclaimed tour was named "Most Creative TourPackage" by industry-leader Pollstar Magazine, but the true measure ofsuccess lies in the fan experience. "You Can't Beat Fun At The OldBallpark," was the headline in the Chicago Sun Times. The Nashville Scenereported that the show "felt more like a backyard party than a rockconcert." The Boston Globe ranked the tour amongst "the most relaxed, enjoyable shows of the year." The Minneapolis Star-Tribune called the event"A Grand Slam!" Performing on this tour with his band, Bob Dylan continues toexperience one of the most creative and prolific periods of his career.Multiple Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a KennedyCenter Honor (the highest honor of artistic achievement given in the UnitedStates) are just a few of the many awards bestowed upon Bob Dylan. ColumbiaRecords is slated to release a new Bob Dylan studio album, "Modern Times," on August 29th. Over the past decade, hundreds of concert performancesaround the world have all found Bob Dylan to be in prime form. Recentperformances with his new band have garnered rave reviews and played tocapacity crowds. Last year saw the critically acclaimed release of NoDirection Home, the first feature-length film biography of Bob Dylan, directed by Martin Scorsese. The year before, Bob Dylan publishedChronicles: Volume One, the first in a series of the artist's self-pennedpersonal histories that spent over 20 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Joining The Bob Dylan Show this summer will be two modern legends ofthe electric guitar -- Texas-style. Guitar Player Magazine calls JimmieVaughan "a virtual deity ... a living legend." His younger brother StevieRay Vaughan cited Jimmie as the biggest inspiration in his own career. As afounding member of The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmie sparked arhythm-and-blues revival that continues unabated today. Veteran roadhousesinger Lou Ann Barton will be joining his band for this summer's trek.Austin-based Junior Brown must be seen to be believed. He plays a demonichybrid "guit-steel" instrument, a combination 6-string electric guitar andpedal steel guitar, a device he cooked up one night in a dream. It soundslike nothing you've ever heard. Throw in a vocal style reminiscent ofErnest Tubb and you have one of the most unique styles in American music.Opening up each night's lineup of music will be Elana James, who frontedthe country swing trio Hot Club of Cowtown and is now touring with her newband The Continental Two. DON'T BE LATE! All tickets are priced at $49.50. Kids 12 and under get in FREE witheach adult ticket holder. There is no baseball game on the day of the show. Lammycat
It'll be interesting to hear the unique styles of both Vaughn and Jr. Brown. I'm assuming Dylan stays on the keys for these. No Coors Field, eh?

Wendy
Sept. 5 Memorial Stadium in Fort Wayne, IN July 22 at 10:00AMHome of The WizardsThis event will go down in the history of Jen and Wendy's rock tourism career as the shortest distance to a show ... EVER. It is walking distance, just a few blocks away from both our houses. So I guess I'll be needing to sign up for the next "Dylan For People Who Don't Like Dylan" class. MeDave
Agreed....seeing Junior Brown tear into Dylan songs will be quite the sight. LouieB i may have read it wrong but i didn't take it to say that junior is playing with bob - its pretty clear that jimmy's doing his own set, i'd say junior is too. changes to his band are pretty big news in their own right in dylan world and denny and donnie were still in as of last nights show... plus with the 10 AM!! weekday start times i'd say its a multi-opener sort of day. however - agreed... seeing junior rip into whatever songs junior rips into before bob will still be quite the sight! THat is the way I understand it as well....all those other guys come on first, but when Dylan comes out, it is just him and his current band (no "special" guests). mjpuczko
i'm sure that is the case. i'm not going to another dylan show until his band changes again. not a fan of the current line up
Wendy
plus with the 10 AM!! weekday start times i'd say its a multi-opener sort of day.The show doesn't start at 10 am, I believe that's when tickets go on sale.
Lammycat
The show doesn't start at 10 am, I believe that's when tickets go on sale.It may be 10 a.m. as Dylan likes to catch the "early-bird special" dinners, I hear. At first I read it as Junior and Jimmy actually playing with Dylan. Then I realized my unfortunate mistake.

mjpuczko
huh, had't heard that. he's definitely playing that little thing. the 1st (and only) show i saw w/ him on keys they played a beautiful version of girl from the north country & you could definitely hear the keys. edit: i saw him twice on keys. forget about him opening for the dead
Lammycat
edit: i saw him twice on keys. forget about him opening for the deadI saw him open for the Dead a few times in '86 and I don't recall him playing the keys. You may be referencing another time, or I may simply have not noticed/forgotten. I do remember he was sounding extremely garbled (drunk?) most of the time. I referred to him at the time as appearing (on the large jumbo stage-side screens) as a gruff woodchuck barking out lyrics. He didn't meld too well with the Dead when he sat in on some tunes with them, either. Baby Blue was pretty much screamed by Dylan at RFK while Bob Weir tryed singing the "Dylan" version along with the barking. But hey, they're his tunes. He can interpret/present them as he wants to, I suppose.
