Duck-Billed Catechist
I just tore into some guy on a White Sox board who was whining about Torre putting in Proctor instead of Rivera (Rivera had pitched in the afternoon game).
bobbob1313
The Royals have gone 30-36 since June 17. They have also won nine of their last 13 games against division leaders or second-place teams. I just tore into some guy on a White Sox board who was whining about Torre putting in Proctor instead of Rivera (Rivera had pitched in the afternoon game). I'm about to do that on a Marlins board. Small world.

MattZ
I suppose given yesterday's discussion of the starting pitching staffs of the Mets and the Marlins, that it would be lame and immature of me to bring up yesterday's games (Williams 7IP, 3ER and Nolosco 4 IP, 6 ER) to bolster my arguments since one game doesnt really prove anything. So, I am not going to do that.

parisisstale
I'm the official president of the "Jeter is Overrated Club" branch of Chicago, but I must admit that Jeter is having a hell of a year. It's his career year, and he's a good pick for MVP. Personally I think Travis Hafner deserves much stronger consideration than he's getting, but since he's a crummy team I understand him being passed over for Jeter or Dye. Either one of those guys would be excellent MVP picks this year. Wow, I'm shocked for the Jeter support. You people are finally coming around. But if this is his career year, what was '99...(.349 avg, .438 obp, 24 hr, 102 rbis, etc...). He's been great for 11 years. An MVP would be a nice validation of that, and maybe help to destroy the "overrated" tag.
Spawn's dad
irrelevant ultimately. I'd say his ability to grab that MVP will largely (and sadly) hinge upon Mo's health. Not sure what today's MRI is about, but with Mo so go any hope the Yankees have.

An MVP would be a nice validation of that, and maybe help to destroy the "overrated" tag. I'm not "finally coming around". I'm looking at what he's actually done and forming an opinion based on that. I still feel very strongly that, over the course of his career, he's been very overrated. And I've never denied that he's an excellent player. He's had a very good career. I've only disputed the pedestal that he is often put on by fans and the media. He's the single most talked about player in the media, hands down, and for the most part the fans give him similar time. He's often talked about as if he's one of the top players in the game, and I think most years he might barely sneak into the top 25-30 position players (maybe). This year he's been considerably better, and I have no qualms about recognizing that. Edited August 31, 2006 by MrRain422
quarter23cd
I can't believe I'm about to make this comparison between my childhood idol and a Yankee, but Jeter has developed something of a Cal Ripken aura about him, in terms of the way he is treated by the fans and the media. He's not especially flashy, but he's developed a reputation for being consistantly dependible. (even if he is a lame media-whore and inherently evil)

MrRain422
I'm not Red Sox fan, but that's some scary shit and I hope it all works out okay. I don't know much about Lester, but it's hard not to love Ortiz, even if you're not a Red Sox fan.
kimalmostpossible
go tigers! if the red sox can't win a game then let's hope the yankees lose some. Vibes for my boy Jonny Lester, cutest pitcher on my fantasy team.
