anthony
Stunningly beautiful. Congrats, Bosco. Hog topped guitars are definitely a different animal: much more muted, woody and subtle. I have a martin D-17 that have come to love, but I had to really play her a while before I was able to appreciate the tonality. I think you will find some songs lend themselves well; while others do not. My two cents, of course YMMV.
Bosco
And I finally got the SG, I haven't played electric in a while, but man I'm loving it! I also forgot how much I love that little Fender Super Champ XD! BTW, the Martin is still a very sweet guitar, the Breedlove too actually ;^) here are some photos: And here are the Three Tweedys (Martin Tweedy, Gibby Tweedy & Breedlove Tweedy):
choo-choo-charlie
Wow. Beautiful guitars. Must be nice to have all three...must have saved up for a long time.
Bosco
Kind of, when the Breedlove came up on EBay I knew that odds were it would be my one shot to get one because they only made 25 so my ex tapped into her 401k for me, when the Gibby was announced I started saving for it, the Martin actually came out first so I used those funds and started saving again. Now I'm done, no more guitars for me.

I just spent a week with a friend's Tele -- the first I've ever played -- and that is a lovely guitar, I must say. I had a few Strats back in the day.
Bosco
That's a nice ex! We were still married at the time, I did put in the divorce agreement that I get to keep my guitars!
Ghost of Electricity
Interested to hear about that Squier Jazzmaster...keep us informed! Yesterday at a flea market I scored a great deal on an old (70's?) German made stand alone delay/reverb unit. An old 70's combo organ also on the way.
choo-choo-charlie
We were still married at the time, I did put in the divorce agreement that I get to keep my guitars! But of course! My wife would never dip into a 401k so I could get a guitar. I'm just a little jealous...I'm just hoping to get my hands on at leat ONE of these someday.
jff
Ha. I just bought a used Muddy Waters Telecaster I have one of those. It's a fantastic instrument.
jff
Interested to hear about that Squier Jazzmaster...keep us informed! Will do. I probaby l won't get it until early September. From what I hear, they are inconsistent on the quality control. Some of them are near perfect, and others have significant problems. Hopefulyl Squier isn't going to crank out a bunch of junk just to fulfill their back orders.

Yeah, at least in my experience, Squier's are either hit or miss.. But mostly hit. I have played some where you couldn't tell the difference between it and an American, and I've played a couple that I wouldn't use to prop open a door.
jff
Interested to hear about that Squier Jazzmaster...keep us informed! It's being delivered today. I won't be able to pick it up until tomorrow night, and when I get home my wife will be hosting her craft group, so I won't be able to plug it in until Wednesday. Gonna be a long two days. What a way to break up a craft group! Blast a Nels style noise solo on your new axe! Just don't expect to get laid anytime soon...
jff
What a way to break up a craft group! Blast a Nels style noise solo on your new axe! Just don't expect to get laid anytime soon... lol. I picked up up the guitar last night and spent some time playing it unplugged. So far my impression is that this guitar is very nice cosmetically. The frets are perfectly installed. It feels very resonant and has a nice, loud unamplified sound. Maybe the loudest unamplified solid-body I've ever played. It definitely needs a set up, but as is, it plays pretty nicely. I might eventually upgrade the bridge, but that shouldn't come as a surprise considering many pro guitarists replace the bridges on their high end Jazzmasters. From everything I've read, changing the strings to 11s, and putting a Mustang bridge on it (Nels/Sonic Youth/Tom Verlaine/etc. use Mastery bridges on theirs, but those cost almost as much as this guitar) make this thing quite a good instrument. As it is, it was well worth the $250 I spent on it.
jff
More thoughts now that I've had a chance to plug in and mess with all the controls. There's a ton of tonal variety in this guitar. More than I expected, and to my ears, more than a Strat. I'm really enjoying the rhythm circuit, which makes a bassier sound than the lead circuit. That can be nice when playing unacommpanied. It'll be interesting to hear this thing in a band context. I still haven't figured out howto install the tremolo arm. Supposedly you just press it in until it clicks, but I haven't gotten it to click yet. I never use the bar anyway, so it's no big loss, although I'd like for it to work. choo-choo-charlie
I used to have a Strat in that color configuration. Beautiful choice!
williamblanda
Added a "new" Trini Lopez to the fleet. It's had some intense repairs and is missing a few priginal parts, but I'm not one to give a hoot about those things as long as it plays and sounds great. Next to it is my '92 GFI SD-10 pedal steel and my '61 J-45 - another beat up vintage player. Hey, they sound swell, thank goodness the collectors don't want them. anthony
I have been an acoustic guitar player for about 10 years now. I have never really 'connected' with the electric guitar as an instrument (after a couple of failed attempts). Not sure, why exactly. Combination of the fact that I am a Living Room Player (electric needs the context of a band, no?) or that I prefer to play with my fingers in lieu of pick (translates to snappy ice-picky notes on electric) or some other unknown cosmic reason. However, I recently bought a Tele and I am trying to challenge myself a little as a musician. Good stuff often comes from challenging yourself. I have been a bit overwhelmed by all the tonal variations. There are knobs, switches, and settings everywhere. To date, I have no really found a good tone that I am 100% happy with. Therefore, I thought I might try out some effect pedals. ( I know, I know, more knobs!). Tons of hardware to choose from, but after some Internets Research and countless YouTube demos, I settled on trying out a Fulltone OCD and MXR Carbon Copy. Got them from my local Mom & Pop. Gotta support these stores, no? BTW, if anyone has any recommended settings for the pedals (and/or amp), I would greatly appreciate it. It is kinda embarrassing to be such a n00b with all this stuff.
