So it looks like the new Dylan finally leaked...

On a certain "mini" torrent site.

I'm not a hardcore Dylan guy, so I'm hoping someone can confirn that all the songs are legit. It only took me like five minutes to download so if your curious you should check it out.

i really like it. some of it is great right off the bat, some feel like growers. the album has a good deal of blues, much like Love and Theft. there are also jazzy ballads, similar to Moonlight. the tracks do seem a bit long with an average time of about 4 minutes.

First listen through and im definately prefering it to Love & Theft. I could never really get into that record...

Favourites so far are Thunder On The Mountain, Rollin' And Tumblin' and Workingmans Blues 2. His voice is sounding nice and the band are on top form. Cant wait to get the offical CD/DVD combo through the post.

I'll third(?) the motion that I'm liking it more than Love & Theft... there music isn't over the top, it's nicely realised... there's obviously plenty going on but it doens't detract from the songs. On the first couple of tracks I thought Dylan sounded very croaky, but as it goes on its as if his voice mellows and gets into it.

Highlights are definitely Rollin' And Tumblin' and Workingmans Blues 2...

Only really had a chance to listen to it through once, but it's pretty damn good so far. I don't think the playing is quite as strong as on Love & Theft nor the production, which is odd because Dylan produced them both. Maybe my mind will change on that, but all the same it's good stuff. Don't know how Froggie can't like Beyond The Horizon though, that's one of the ones I like a lot.

Favs so far:

Spirit On The Water

Workingman's Blues #2

Beyond The Horizon

Ain't Talkin'

fwiw, don't judge the production from this poor rip, because it's got a ton of hiss on it, and it's a bit muddy sounding, the actual thing will sound looooads better

Blast. I was hoping that a 320 kps rip has surfaced!

At any rate, I think this record isn't nearly as strong as L&T or TOOM, if only because Dylan doesn't seem to have much to say this time out. The four blooze rockers are mostly disposable, and the love songs are very straightforward.

That said, the production is very impressive, and he's wrung expert performances out of his current road band that I frankly didn't think possible. His singing is also much more expressive and better controlled than on the last record (although he generally sounds quite geriatric and growls like a werewolf on some of the rockers). Also, the handful of songs that are great tend to be friggin' brilliant. Nettie Moore is astonishing; I'm loving the minimal arrangement and haunting strings. Workingman's Blues has a great melody and fantastic words that seem to operate on a number of levels, and Ain't Talkin' is a sinister song that slithers along like a snake through a swamp (woo, I made a rhyme without even trying).

So far I'm really enjoying it - it's downright brilliant by any other artist's standards - but I don't think it's worthy of the last two. To paraphrase Jeff Daniels' character in The Squid and the Whale, "Minor Dylan, not to be taken seriously."
