pillowy star
Is this thread for real ? If it is, I'd say "no support acts, please". But then I say that for every show I am going to, and am never listened to anyway

ponch1028
Josh Ritter would be a nice opener, although I guess he's already too big for opening for someone else. He is, though, not bigger than Wilco. I'm not the greatest fan of opening acts, but I appreciate established artists providing the opportunity for lesser known musicians to showcase their music to a wider audience. I generally look into artists or musicians that open for Wilco - something I may not do if they didn't have a Wilco connection. So while I think all of us would enjoy an additional 30-45 minutes of Wilco music, I appreciate Wilco's contribution to others in the music community. My opinion is that Wilco should always invite opening acts that have horns or strings, that way they can collaborate on songs such as Pieholden Suite, I'm The Man Who Loves You, Monday, Walken, & Misunderstood (w/ horns) or Jesus, Etc., Hummingbird, & The Lonely 1 (w/ strings). Better yet, get a fiddle player and/or banjo player and utilize them on Casino Queen, Forget The Flowers, What's The World Got In Store, Why Would You Wanna Live. Any band that can contribute musicianship to some Wilco songs is grade-A in my book
Wendy
Any band that can contribute musicianship to some Wilco songs is grade-A in my book I really REALLY hope there is some collaboration at the two Chicago Thanksgiving weekend Auditorium shows between Wilco and their opening acts. Friday the opener is Detholz, who have already opened for Wilco in the past, and have joined the band playing horns It was fantastic. And Saturday the opener is Califone, and they utilize banjo and experimental percussion and guitar sounds, so they could certainly add an interesting dimension to a Wilco song or two. Well, I don't know if any of that will happen, but it is certainly something to hope for. And if it doesn't, I will be so happy to see Califone perform Saturday night as the opener, and Detholz I'm not quite as big a fan of, but they are good, too.

I don't think it's the opening band that's keeping them from playing an extra 30-45 minutes.
Wendy
No, it's usually curfew or contractual reasons that they have to stop playing by a certain time. When there's opening acts, sometimes the shows start earlier.
