socbret
"Keep The Car Running"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iyu_VvR0i1Y "Intervention"http://youtube.com/watch?v=pWP3jkNf0TU Both good performances. Sound was alot better than what most bands have on SNL. Not sure what I think about the guitar smash.
TCP
I've always been kind of iffy about The Arcade Fire and then I started watching their performance and I was like "yeah they're pretty good". Then he went and smashed that guitar and yeah..... However, Rainn Wilson = hillarious!

cryptique
There are poor children in Africa who could have used that guitar. I still don't get what's so great about this band.
rogi
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Vj-0ElNWLg - working link for keep the car running, can't find one for intervention anymore
embiggen
I didn't find these performances the least bit impressive. the sound was terrible as well.
jakobnicholas
I didn't find these performances the least bit impressive. the sound was terrible as well. My thoughts exactly. Watching the first song, I could barely hear the words being sung...all I could hear was keyboards.
Artifice
Watching the first song, I could barely hear the words being sung...all I could hear was keyboards. I hoped on VC right after the performance expecting at least a dozen comments calling for the soundboard guy's head for having the keyboards pumped way too much on Intervention. I didn't care for the other song. As far as Acrade Fire in general, Funeral is truly an inspired album full of gorgeous lyrics, poingant emotions, and (surpisingly) uptempo rockers. I'm not sure about Neon Bible yet. The lyrics to Intervention aren't as strong as the best songs on Funeral, and it sounds more like Win is whining about cliche angst than anything personal and real. I'll reserve judgment on it. But as for their performances, they've always been fun. Even the kitschy stuff with the motorcycle helmets and such. They have stage presence, albeit a different kind. JMal
yeah, I don't get what everyone loves about this band. Lyrically the songs seemed kind of interesting but I didn't really dig them musically. Also...with like a dozem people in the band, none of them can sing a harmony once and while? The best they could do was shout in unison...
solace
at this point, you either kinda get them or you don'tif you see them live and don't find the show moving, then you're not gonna dig this band, that much i can guarantee. and there's PLENTY of amazing harmonies on both records... TheMaker
The best band around today by far (sorry, Wilcos), but a so-so performance. Then again, it's SNL, so how it could be anything else? I'll never understand why getting to play this crapfest of a show is seen as the holy grail of TV for a lot of bands.
solace
actually Intervention was better than ANY of the warmup show performances of it (especially any of the 3 NYC ones i saw), but Win's vocal was a bit low at first. i thought they were mighty fine on KTCR too actually... mjpuczko
i thought both were good performances
solace
yeah, they're not exactly on top of their game right now (even though the Sat night of NYC might have been the best time i've seen 'em), even in concert. i'd imagine by May or so, they'll be pretty tight. Orkie
Funeral is a masterpiece. But the new album is not up to snuff.

Artifice
what did it say on the guitar that was smashed? "sak vide pa kanpe" is a creole proverb that means "an empty sack cannot stand up."
TCP
I always thought indie snobs were the people that loved this band.I'm ashamed they are from Canada You guys got Bush, we got Win.
mjpuczko
you're ashamed of arcade fire? i'd be more ashamed about bryan adams.
