jdmel
I couldnt think of a way to title the topic that wasnt a huge tease, but how great would a wilco unplugged be? I hate MTV as much as the next music snob but today I was listening to Nirvana's unplugged and I realized there were a lot of really classic performances on that show... Claptons was amazing too. Wouldn't it be incredible to see Wilco put on a performance like that? A kind of cross between a Tweedy solo show but with everyone involved? I miss nels coming in and tickling my ear drum during tweedy solo shows. I dont really know what the point of this post is, but it seems like theres this huge organized intelligent fanbase (all of us), we should really do more to encourage things like a Wilco: Unplugged. HighFives
that'd be a cool show to hear/see. I love Neil Young's preformance on there.
aricandover
VH1.com here's a mini unplugged set from a few years ago. it includes: "Hummingbird (Live @ VH1.com)" "Company in My Back (Live @ VH1.com)" "Christ For President (Live @ VH1.com)"
TCP
I'd love to see that. John on stand up bass, Nels on dobro, Mike on piano, and Jeff and Pat on acoustic guitars (and Glenn, doing his thing)! Yes please! Does MTV still even do Unpluggeds?
Analogman
sort of MTV Unplugged is the ultimate stripped-down-to-the-core musical performance show. Established in 1989, the series has over the years featured striking performances by the biggest and best names in music. Everyone from Eric Clapton and Neil Young to Nirvana and R.E.M. to Alicia Keys, Jay-Z and LL Cool J have Unplugged, reinterpreting their music in our intimate, acoustic setting with stunning results. In the 21st Century, MTV Unplugged has re-emerged with a selection of today's biggest and brightest stars taking the stage and peeling away the trappings of their music to reveal the essence at its core. From established heavy-hitters like Korn to rising stars like R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo and the sexy, soulful Joss Stone, Unplugged remains the hallmark of intimate, exclusive concert performances that can't be seen anywhere else. Plus, MTV Unplugged gives fans the V.I.P treatment with up- close-and-personal artist interviews and extra footage from Unplugged concerts. And you can start, stop, pause and e-mail MTV Unplugged videos to your friends, so you control what you watch and when you watch it. From classic metal anthems set to exotic orchestrations, brilliant B- sides, emo made even more expressive, and even more righteous R&B, MTV Unplugged gives you a whole new approach to musicians and the music they make. It's your favorite music like you've never heard it before, and you won't hear it anywhere else but MTV Unplugged.

HighFives
wilco on mtv nooooooo yeah but the initial post wasn't about mtv as much as it was about how cool it'd be for an unplugged all acoustic set.

Calexico
Does MTV still even do Unpluggeds? I was just thinking that myself. Didn't it kinda fizzle out?
Analogman
See my post above - I think it is a once in a while thing - although, I read somewhere that is was going to come back more oftern - on MTV 2.
m_to_the_c
I think what made the Nirvana unplugged so great (and arguably their best album) was that it was so anomalous for them. I read some Dave Grohl interview where Kurt kept on telling him to play softer, almost imperceptible. Meanwhile, hearing Kurt's voice so clearly, he haunted those songs. All Apologies was devastating! So, I'd like to see them do an "Unplugged" with synths, mellotrons, optigans, chamberlins, wurlitzers, moogs and organs with Glenn on a percussion kit made completely of found objects. That would be pretty cool, something like "The Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Orchestra Deconstructs Sky Blue Sky". (and that's not a dig on SBS, I am going to make my own mind up on the new record tomorrow!) cryptique
You do know what "unplugged" implies, right? What, you've never heard of an acoustic synthesizer?
Szabo
yea it was the only thing that was released.... man i want to see that footage so bad. I know its out there somewhere, I hope this gets released. I don't even care if its a "movie" i just want to see the shows. I saw about 3 or 4 songs from it at Alive One in Chicago at the KT album release party. The dude said it'd probably never be shown again, and I have no memory of what the songs were.
m_to_the_c
I should have qualified my post with saying their show would be devoid of guitars too. I do know what Unplugged implies, and by definition, the artists are all plugged in technically. I just want something different, not some dude and guitar. We've all been there. JUDE
... We've all been there. Yes we have brother.

We've all been there.Granted, not every artist who did Unplugged has been (Springsteen), and of course, it's recorded, so there's electricity happening. But using tape machines and loops and synths is about as plugged as you can possibly get. The show's called "MTV Unplugged," not "MTV Different." Try a harmonium and a hurdy-gurdy. Calexico
What, you've never heard of an acoustic synthesizer? Isn't that just a cabinet? Any UK'ers remember when there was a VH2 and they had a midnight show on sponsored by Uncut magazine? That was pretty sweet, till they rejigged the channel and called in MTV Flux or some shite. mastershake
this should happen, but it never will cause nowadays mtv caters to shit like linkin park too much. you are more likely to see nickelback unplugged than wilco unplugged
