It sure sounded like Jim was going to give it a "burn it" designation, but he changed course at the last minute.

Jim was really not very postive about the album in general, but I figure he had to go with it as the home town critic, though clearly Kot is the main booster for Wilco.

I really dislike their show in general. I never can figure out who is talking. One of them needs a voice transplant.

Greg is the one who interjects "sort of" into many of his sentences.

I enjoyed their show more when it was on WXRT here in Chicago and on Tuesdays from 10 till midnight. It was more free form, funny, and crazy. I still enjoy it on Public Radio, but not as much, and I don't listen to it as much. But Greg is usually the voice that is a lot more modest while Jim will spit and interject into the microphone. However, I do enjoy both of them and have talked to both of them, but I'll choose Kot because I favor his wide tastes more.

I agree with Greg more often then Jim. Jim's a joke. I was disgusted when I found out when I learned of his hatred of Tom Waits and his mixed review TV on the Radio's Return to Cookie Mountain. I was really surprised when neither one of them would give a "buy it" to Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. But he did write that really scathing of review of Ryan Adam that made him go all Courtney Love on Deregotis.

This might sound ridiculous, but I don't think I could ever trust anybody who professes a hatred for Tom Waits. Not in any capacity. For real.
It seems a bit crazy to dismiss Tom Waits out of hand. I can understand having mixed feelings about the guy at times, but he is a true original and not worthy of the kind of rejection DeRogotis has expressed, particulary since he wrote the book on Lester Bangs, a guy who often championed the strange and unusual .

I think it's on at 8 p.m. in Chicago tomorrow and 11 a.m. on Saturday. I see that you are from Elmhurst so you should be good. If you miss it, they should post the show at the latest by Monday.

I haven't listened to this but I generally dislike this show. Jim Deregottis manages to drain all the interest out of my favorite music. He's super pedantic and even albums he likes come off as dull after he's done talking about them.

Tho I probably just dislike him cause he panned the Oysterhead show I loved a couple years back, I still don't want to hear someone talk down to me on the radio. One I heard a couple weeks ago his point was that while he likes norah jones as a person and likes listening to the new album he doesn't like the new album because it's not cool to like norah jones but it's ok to like OF norah jones.

That said.

The interview will be interesting.

The actual interview was the musical equivilant of the sports interview before a big game....Wilco gave this album 110% Lots of the same old boring questions. Nice musical interludes though.
