jimmyjimmy
They had a good salsa compilation CD there that I came THIS CLOSE to buying."Embrace the Dark Side my Son"
velocity253
so what if you are that guy that splurges on the CD while making your $4.00 coffee purchase. You saw it there next to the Maroon 5 CD and thought it must be good. And then you loved it. All the grooviness of SBS made you swoon. So you start checking out the Wilco back catalog. What do you think happenes then? How would some like that react to IATTBYH, ALTWYS, or Monday even?

bobbob1313
why does it matter? That's what I was going to say. Someone can't listen to anything by wilco unless they are going to listen to everything they make and love every bit of it?
OOO
This is not the Battlestar Galactica thread I hoped it would be.
Mr. Heartbreak
They would not carry Bruce's Devils & Dust cd becasue of the song about the prostitute. But that was only because she did anal. If it was just straight sex, I think they would have been fine with it.
Reni
No Chris - you have to love ALL of it - that's why I am throwing out all of my Wilco CDs - because, as you know, I am one of the folks who doesn't like, nor will I buy, the new one........ Can I at least keep the Mermaid Ave ones?? It is half Billy Bragg? Is that allowed?
cryptique
There is a Starbucks near where I live. Now there's a shocker.

Someone can't listen to anything by wilco unless they are going to listen to everything they make and love every bit of it?I think the point was, it's good if you buy the CD, no matter where you find it. If buying SBS at Starbuck's gets you into the rest of Wilco's catalog, that's gravy. That's how I read it, but maybe I'm being overly optimistic.
Sir Stewart
I'm listening to "What Light" and thinking about getting up for a cup of Starbucks. Sorry.

velocity253
why does it matter? I guess it matters about as much as discussing the fact that the CD is available at Starbucks. I was just curious. I would imagine that there would be a group of people that would love it, as I do, and be amazed at how Wilco has presented so may different sides to the same thing over the many years. I bet there is a group of people that could love SBS and never get into the older stuff just because the sound is so varied.

quarter23cd
This is not the Battlestar Galactica Moby-Dick thread I hoped it would be. What do you think happenes then? How would some like that react to IATTBYH, ALTWYS, or Monday even?Probably just fine. The bigger question might be how we will react when that person's newfound Wilco-appreciation leads him/her here and a new thread pops up saying "Hi, I just discovered Wilco at Starbucks..." ...and since when did "Monday" become so inaccessible to the average listener?? LouieB
Man there must be alot of hippie wannabes here if anyone in this millenium thinks that most bands really give a shit where they are sold. I am gonna guess there are few bands that wouldn't consider product placement in a Starbucks, just as there are few bands who wouldn't want to have a song in a commercial. The few who still care are either hippies themselves or have already made so much money they don't really care about it anymore. In the famous words of Abbie Hoffman, it isn't whether you sell out, it is how soon and for how much. Music is a commodity just like coffee.... LouieB

bjorn_skurj
"Embrace the Dark Side my Son"I was actually going to, but then they ran out. I don't really like paying $13.95 for a CD anyhow.

cryptique
Does Wal-Mart sell Sky Blue Sky? Because they're way more evil than Starbucks. I mean, come on. Wilco put out an album, and now it's being sold by various retailers. One of those retailers happens to do most of its business in overpriced coffee drinks. Who cares? redstripe
I agree, the thought of seeing Wilco in an arena is scary, but truthfully I can not believe it has not already happened. Probably because they stopped doing the arena version of box full of letters. as for the band selling records at starbucks, do they even have a choice? can't starbucks just buy a heap from the distributor w/o the band's consent? It's not like they released a version on the starbucks label. isn't starbucks among the top 5 music retailers in the US?

LouieB
sho nuff.Would there be any reason NOT to sell it at Walmart? I mean really..... Many communites don't have any record stores, much less independent record stores. Do we want Wilco to only sell albums through their website and CD Baby or what? Dr. Steve Brule
I had no choice but to buy CDs at WalMart in Stevens Point, WI. So I understand, Had there been a Starbucks there I would have bought CDs there b/c at least they have decent benefits, etc.
