imsjry
I believe I'm still the only one to have mentioned Rickie Lee Jones, which means that all the rest of you are wrong. Bump. That is a great call and a big oversight on my part!

Littlebear
Has every woman in music history been named yet? I could name a hundred of others and I'm not sure I would even put Rickie Lee Jones among them.

brettac1
Patti Smith is pretty much a no-brainer for me. I mean, she's almost as cool as Lou Reed - and that is saying something. Kudos to whoever mentioned Sleater-Kinney. I am totally in love with Carrie Brownstein, even though she doesn't go my way. Neko Case, rules, too. I think Shara Worden just oozes coolness, especially when you see her live.
markosis
I still say Rosetta Tharp. What other woman in music history is cool enough to have influenced Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis? I'd say that's pretty damn cool.
