PigSooie
I am a pretty big fan of Furr but have not heard any of their earlier stuff. What do people think of it? "Wild Mountain Nation" is good. It's totally different than "Furr" though.
MrRain422
And better, IMO. I also dig Field Rexx a lot, which has a pretty strong Pavement vibe.
tangara
I agree, Field Rexx is probably my favorite of all their records.

uncool2pillow
Listened to Furr today. Good CD. Maybe like the Band covering Bowie or T-Rex.
Sunny
Best band in the world for $12. Go see them.
Guest Jules
Black River Killer is amazing... that may be my favorite if the title track isn't
MrRain422
Just got back from the early show at the Empty Bottle. Would have preferred the late one, but was too late to get tickets. Really good show, if short on older material. They played most of the new album, about half of WMN, 2 songs I didn't recognize, and I think that was it. I don't think there was anything from Field Rexx. Really tight though. I think they're too big for the venue at this point.
CortezTheKiller
Nice. Going to see them next week in Boston.

solace
good to hear the Chicago show was good... Minneapolis on Wed was TERRIBLE. crowd was sedate and lame, band lacked a ton of energy compared to past shows i've seen, and they did not seem up to the task of playing @ a big venue like First Avenue yet. http://www.culturebully.com/blitzen-trappe...enue-02-18-2009 after seeing 2 bad shows out of 5 now, i've realized they're a hit or miss live band unfortunately. mjpuczko
the show at the turf in october was pretty good but honestly, i like these united states way more & they were missing two members!

Totally agree wbout the lack of energy. Should have kept it at the Cedar.

There were tickets available for the late show at the door. I caught both - great sets! Best energy I've seen from them yet. Slight edge to the later show; I think there were at least two off Field Rexx (hell if I can remember which..."Cold Gold Diamond", maybe?) and they closed with that cover of "Last Thing on My Mind" which I just love And I got my "Jericho" request, which was a treat I really, really want to go to this festival they're playing: http://www.pickathon.com/festival_lineup.php On a related note, I don't think I need to see Alela Diane again anytime soon. solace
On a related note, I don't think I need to see Alela Diane again anytime soon. really? she was LOVELY in Minneapolis... White As Diamonds is one of my fave songs so far this year honestly. her set was mellow, sure, but gorgeous vocals and nice understated backing band.
tangara
Eh, I guess. I thought it was pretty typical coffeeshop-lady-singer-songwriter stuff. Her dad was nice, though. All lookin' like Neil Young in his lil hat.
solace
huh... you guys have better coffee shop singer/songwriters than us I guess not saying she's the best thing i've ever heard, but I can definitely see why she's getting good reviews of her records
tangara
I suppose that was a little dismissive. It was fine, just not my cup of tea (or coffee? ) at all.
solace
fair enough, i can certainly understand that. plus i know tons of folks who just have an aversion to female singer/songwriter type stuff in general. i'll admit it takes something special to stand out in that genre for me too, but a few of her songs are pretty great. if i wasn't already familiar w/ her going into the show I dunno if i'd have cared either
tangara
Yeah. There was something Newsom-y about her vocal that turned me off, too.
solace
woah... no way it was that yelp-y
tangara
Nah, not quite. But approaching it at times. Here are some cute sketches from the Mpls show: http://www.prefixmag.com/news/blitzen-trap...ltural-1/26252/
