Analogman
Since I was a young dude I have always wondered about this deal - and now, we have an answer: 2. The Rover 5:44 (Page/Plant)Recorded in May 1972 at Stargroves by Eddie Kramer, in the garden, with The Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. Overdubs & Mixdown in Oct. 1974 by Keith Harwood, Olympic Studios, London. Guitar lost courtesy Nevison. Salvaged by the grace of Harwood.
froggie
hmmm, Jack Bruce isnt a fan! http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/page/cl...lin_you_re_crap Jack Bruce (above) picked up the Classic Album gong for Cream
stooka
Maybe, Jeff Beck will eventually punch him in the face.
Analogman
Jack Bruce always talks that way. I thought those Cream re-union shows were terrible.
cryptique
Fuck off' date=' Zeppelin, you’re crap. You’ve always been crap and you’ll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they’re sold. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is. [i']That’s a bold opinion.[/i]What? You’re gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that? To be fair, they’re different kinds of player, aren’t they? No! Eric’s good and Jimmy’s crap. And with that I rest my case.Wow. I like Cream, but they never struck me as an especially innovative band -- they were merely one of the better British blues-fetishist bands. As for Cream being "10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is," LZ had them outmanned at every position: Ginger Baker was undeniably great (and can still play), but he never could compete with Bonham. Bruce is a terrific bassist, but come on, John Paul Jones? And though Bruce's voice was (to my mind) the best asset in the band, Robert Plant was a much more dynamic and charismatic singer. And finally, I know a lot of people would probably disagree with me on this, but I find Page's guitar work far more interesting than Clapton's. Clapton's playing has become boring to me, to be honest. It's sad, because they're both great bands. I think Bruce is just cheesed off that Led Zeppelin had so much more success than he ever did. Bruce is right that the one-off Led Zeppelin reunion gig has been overpraised. I think that, as much as anything, is why I'm not too torn up about Plant not returning to the fold for a tour. Sir Stewart
Bruce is right that the one-off Led Zeppelin reunion gig has been overpraised. Do you have it? Every time I listen to it, it sounds like a near-miracle to me.
Analogman
In some ways, if it was not for the success of Cream and Iron Butterfly, there may have not been a Led Zeppelin.
cryptique
Do you have it? Every time I listen to it, it sounds like a near-miracle to me.I think my main complaint is exactly what Bruce pointed to -- they transposed the songs to give Plant a better chance at keeping up with some of those notes. Even with the changes, his vocals were only OK -- he didn't embarrass himself, but he's just not the singer he once was. His style of singing from the band's heyday is an immensely difficult thing to sustain into old age. That said, I'd definitely rather see him out in front than some replacement singer. No Plant = No Led Zeppelin.
MattZ
I dont have any problem with what Jack Bruce said. I realize it's all subjective, but I would take Disreali Gears (and Wheels of Fire) over any LZ album. Just my opinion of course, and I realize that I am very much in the minority. Orkie
Clapton better than Page? hahahhahah. Maybe at doing heroin.......
Vacant Horizon
Clapton better than Page? hahahhahah. Maybe at doing heroin....... they're both different players. clapton is a lot more technically astute than page and live, his is so much better and cleaner. page is sloppy as hell, but the dude could write a riff that blows clapton away any day...whole lotta love, heartbreaker, moby dick, the ocean, over the hills, black dog... Sir Stewart
I don't see the point in comparing Cream and LZ. It's like comparing The White Stripes and The Racon - oh, wait. Bad example. But they're very different bands, to me.
