camaroheadus
I like The Search, but I don't think it's a patch on AGIB or YHF, only my opinion though so don't set the hounds on me! Alex i can see the yhf side of your argument, but agib doesn't hold up imo. if you took jay and jeff's entire catalog, agib and terrior blues would be at the bottom. caliber66
anodyne is by far the best uncle tupelo album and is leaps and bounds over a.m. i stronly disagree w/ the whole farrar blew his load theory, The Search is AS GOOD as anything jay or jeff has ever done.Wow, I like Jay's post-UT output a lot, but I can't even come close to agreeing with you on that one, not that I don't like The Search. As far as him not living up to his potential, I definitely don't agree with that either. If Jay never made another album after Trace, he met his potential. That he hasn't made anything better since (in many people's opinions) makes no difference, because Trace was that good. The other two original-lineup Son Volt albums are pretty great, too. you ever seen a ghost?
of course it's Anodyne. i really can't stand A.M. anyway... -justin

I just really love the opening 5 tracks on AGIB and the way they grew on me. I think the fact that the songs still feature so prominently in the latest setlists is a testiment to the quality of the songwriting. I also have such a personal connection with them too, which might be tainting my opinion a little! At Least That's What You Said is probably my favourite live 'full band' song... OOO
I wouldn't buy any record without "That's not the issue" on it. Or "too far apart"
captain obvious
I wouldn't buy any record without "That's not the issue" on it. Or "too far apart"By my calculations, you have either broken your rule, bought multiple copies of A.M., or only (legitimately) own one album.
lost highway
Has anyone ever noticed the back half of Anodyne is comparitavely weak. Fifteen Keys, High Water and Steal the Crumbs aren't bad at all, but they're not nearly as engaging as Chickamauga, New Madrid, Acuff Rose, Give Back the Key...etc. Its as if you can actually hear the band slowing down into retirement. Still licks A.M.

OOO
That album does not have "That's Not the Issue" and "Too Far Apart" on it. If you carefully reread my post, you'll note that I only asked you to check out the track listing. I didn't say I owned that album or that it disproved anything. I just thought you might like that album.
anodyne
For me: 1) Anodyne, 2) Trace, 3) AMpreach it brotha! and i really like jay's post-UT stuff. I don't get the jay-bashing. the only thing about him that really strikes me is how that old-man voice was in such a young dude on those UT records.

Jimbo Jones
I'll take Anodyne over both and Trace over AM. One last thing: I don't know . . . with songs like D. Boone It's D. Boon. I LOVE Minutemen and I just wanted to point that out. Jeff writing a song in tribute to the man is just another reason I have so much respect for him.

Just check out the lyrics for high water.
