Duck-Billed Catechist
Put forth a sacrificial lamb and then make sure he doesn't have much of a meaningful punishment. Good stuff.
MattZ
Does this surprise anyone?
Sweet Papa Crimbo
Does this surprise anyone? Not really...and I'm not sure that it really bothers me. Libby was hung out to dry by Cheney and was the 'fall guy'. He was not pardoned...the conviction will stand as will the fine will still have to be paid. His life is basically over. When history is written of this period 50 years from now, Cheney will be recoginzed as an unparallelled figure in American history. Secretive, vindictive, unafraid to exercise arbitrary power, unflinching and a figure totally without any endearing facets to his political character. He's the one who scares me...Bush has proven to be a cipher.
SlowBurn68
Does this surprise anyone? No. But I'm more interested in why we as Americans have to tolerate this. I WANT A NEW, NEW DEAL NOW.
Duck-Billed Catechist
His life is basically over.Disagree. I see a cushy job in his future.
MattZ
I don't buy it Crowjack. He might as well have been pardoned. I understand he still pays the fine, but so what? His life isn't ruined. You don't think he ends up with a job at some conservative think tank in DC? Or in the RNC if he wants? And he'll gets a nice payday to write a book about his ordeal. Sweet Papa Crimbo
Disagree. I see a cushy job in his future. Doubt it... In the political climate that exists today? Doubt it very seriously.
bjorn_skurj
He'll be fine. He'll get a gig as a lobbyist or working for a think tank.
MrRain422
This is the least surprising thing that I have heard all day.
Reni
a kooshy think tank/lobby job is definitely in his future - and yes, I also see a book deal. I am not surprised - but am surely fed up with this bullshit. But then again, I was fed up a long long long time ago.

SlowBurn68
this is the big thing to complain about regarding Bush's presidency? For me this is just another "Fuck You" from him but it's just so egregious.

anodyne
this is the commutation, but he will be pardoned as bush is leaving office. as far as his future, just look at ollie north. it's not as if he's living hand to mouth.
augurus
Actually, I'm surprised that Bush is finally making use of some of his presidential powers. As a president, he's quite the truant when it comes to exercising executive powers.
anodyne
He's definitely the truant president, but not when it comes to power. He makes Andrew Jackson seem quaint.
