Lammycat
It's stupid to look at wins, because it tells you pretty much nothing at all.I don't know if I agree 100%. Yeah, wins are perhaps over-emphasized, but they do give a nice glimpse of how a pitcher fares. For example, Wakefield traditionally does not get a lot of run support when he pitches, whether he's pitching effectively or not. There's something to be said for that, I think. And smart money says to never count the NYY out of contention. A Wild Card spot is very possible.
MrRain422
I don't know if I agree 100%. Yeah, wins are perhaps over-emphasized, but they do give a nice glimpse of how a pitcher fares. For example, Wakefield traditionally does not get a lot of run support when he pitches, whether he's pitching effectively or not. There's something to be said for that, I think. This is precisely why it's silly to look at wins. If he pitches well and gets no run support, he does not get the win. If he pitches well, but his bullpen blows it, he does not get the win. If he pitches poorly, but his team's offense goes crazy and scores 15 runs, then he gets the win. Wins are a great team stat. In fact, they are the best team stat (of course). But they just don't tell you anything about an individual pitcher because there are so many other factors involved (unless you think that a starting pitcher has some sort of influence over how well his team hits, or how well his bullpen maintains leads). They're a good indication of how good of a team a guy plays for, but that's about it.
Lammycat
I'll agree with that.
jenbobblehead
As a fair and balanced Red Sox fan, I can admit that Red Sox fans, in general, are far more obnoxious than Yankees fans.I disagree. all teams have shitty fans regardless of their record. to say that one team over another has awfuller fans i think is false. Unless you're talking about Philly Phans.
MrRain422
Everyone can agree that Phillies fans are insufferable.
Sir Stewart
Yeah, all I know is I get annoyed a lot, and the people who annoy me are usually wearing Red Sox shirts. Perhaps if I live in Milwaukee I'd be annoyed by people who happen to be wearing Brewers shirts.

MattZ
Yes, as currently and broadly defined. But I prefer to call them "statistically-challenged."

KevinG
i live in milwaukee, im a brewer fan, not annoyed by people wearing brewer shirts, annoyed by Cubs fans wearing Cub shirts in Milwaukee. That is too bad. I didn't know the town you lived in required you to have allegiance to a specific team. I am a Cub fan and have been all my life, I live in Madison WI. I'll wear my Cub gear proud. MrRain422
In college, I lived in a house with 7 other people, one of whom was a Yankees fan who was from San Jose (she also rooted for the Cowboys, so you can probably get a sense for what type of person she is). That was the year that the Yankees lost the World Series to the Diamondbacks. Most satisfying.
bobbob1313
Of my 4 closest friends, one is a big Yankees fan, but he's also one of the most knowledgable baseball fans I've ever met. One doesn't like baseball at all. One likes the Red Sox, but thats only because he's from Rhode Island and he kind of has to, being from New England and all. And the last friend is a Marlins fan, but he's not a terribly knowledgable baseball fan, mostly because he didn't really begin following baseball until the 2003 season. In his defense, ever since he started watching baseball, he's known that pitching wins are a completely worthless stat, but he can't understand why I think Batting Average is basically useless. boywiththorninside
Did anyone see this? This has been getting local coverage. Talk about an a-hole fan. Fan recoveringFalling man breaks tourist's neck at Yankee StadiumPosted: Saturday July 14, 2007 1:18PM; Updated: Saturday July 14, 2007 1:18PM NEW YORK (AP) -- A tourist who suffered a broken neck at Yankee Stadium when another fan fell on him is recovering from his injuries. Paul Robinson, 53, of Kirkland, Wash., was sitting in the stadium's steep upper deck with his wife and 13-year-old son last Sunday when an unidentified fan standing above him took a violent tumble down several rows of seats. "His neck is in a big brace. He's not paralyzed. Luckily, the surgery was very, very successful," said Steven Osborne, a spokesman for Montefiore Medical Center. "And this is a miracle, because that vertebrae, if you go a fraction of an inch, you're paralyzed, or you can't breathe." The man crashed into Robinson's head, breaking his vertebrae, then came to rest in the next row. "It felt like my head had been ripped off," Robinson told the Daily News from his hospital bed. EMT's took Robinson to the hospital, where surgeons put a screw in his neck to help it heal. The man who fell was dragged away by his friends and never bothered to apologize or check how badly Robinson was hurt. The family believes he was drunk. "I found it odd that they didn't even ask if Paul was OK," Robinson's wife, Kathy, told the Daily News. "It's very steep up there, but if it was an innocent trip, they would ask if Paul was OK." The family was on an East Coast baseball pilgrimage at the time of the accident. They had planned to go next to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and then head to Boston for a game at Fenway Park The accident was similar to one that happened in April during a Mets game at Shea Stadium. In that case, a 58-year-old woman suffered a broken back when a very large drunk crashed into her during a fall. The woman, who cracked several vertebrae, is now suing the team and its beer vendor. bobbob1313
The upper deck at Yankee Stadium is ridiculously steep. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. Gotta be tough for the vendors up there.

Chendizzle
"They were bored 'til I came out there," said Bonds, who planned to also take Wednesday off from starting to give his sore legs another day to heal. Anyone watch the video of him saying this? I just love how arrogant he is. My friend recently got back from a trip to California and attended a Giants game, he said they give Barry a standing ovation every plate appearance and seem to unconditionally love him. I will never understand how Giants fans worship this cheating prick.

I was there last night, and even when he came up to pinch hit, it gave the Chicago crowd a boost of energy, and all standing too. A lot of boos/hisses, etc. and cheering when he lined out.
