bobs
Just finished this book and loved it. I like he leaves it up to you to figure out time periods and what stages of his career he's talking about. Obviously you can tell when he's talking about Greenwich, but when he's changing his voice, etc. Anyone know if and when Volume two is to be expected? Cheers.
Sir Stewart
Let me be the first to express disappoint that this was not a "Volume 2 to be released" thread... I liked the book a lot. "Oh Mercy" is the New Orleans stuff.
Three dollars and 63 cents
I finally picked up a copy of this a few weeks ago, but I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet. I'm looking forward to it.
Dreamin'
He tells such great stories, yet reveals very little about himself, keeping the mystique alive. I would expect no less from Bob Dylan.
So Long
Let me be the first to express disappoint that this was not a "Volume 2 to be released" thread.. seriously. I loved the book as well.
froggie
loved it too.. i always thought a lot of the stuff had to be made up. for example, remembering the colour of cutrains 45 years ago, having a coffee at some obscure time and things like that hope volume 2 comes around eventually
yermom
Count me in the camp of those who were hopeful this was a thread concerning a confirmed release of the next book.

Welsh Rich
It is a great book. I'm not an obsessive Dylan fan, but I was entralled by his stories. Sure, he doesn't give to much away, but he's such a good storyteller that you're enthralled from the outset.
Jay
I went to the bookstore a few weeks ago to buy this and walked out with the Strummer biography instead. So this may be next.
mjpuczko
that's the next rock bio i'm going to buy.
Welsh Rich
I've got the Strummer one to read - it's a hefty old book...

TCP
I believe there's a Wilco mention in Chronicles. This is correct. He talks about trying to get to Woody's house to get his unfinished songs, but Woody's wife wasn't home. He mentions that years later Wilco and Billy Bragg compose lyrics to these songs. He also remarks that he tried getting those lyrics before most of the band was even born.
LouieB
I believe there's a Wilco mention in Chronicles.Page 100 to be exact. I surely hope volume two appears sometime soon. LouieB
Hi my name is Lee
His bitter tone is so much at times that it made me laugh when I was reading it. Great read by any standards.

you ever seen a ghost?
it's true literature. at any rate, around this time last year, he spoke a little bit about Volume 2 in the Rolling Stone interview. he said the furthest back he'd be going is 1966, or something to that effect. -justin
bjorn_skurj
loved it too.. i always thought a lot of the stuff had to be made up. for example, remembering the colour of cutrains 45 years ago, having a coffee at some obscure time and things like that hope volume 2 comes around eventuallyIt's really more of a novelistic memoir. Good stuff.
JerseyMike
went to the bookstore a few weeks ago to buy this and walked out with the Strummer biography instead. So this may be next. I just bought, and finished, the Strummer bio. It was a great read. Very insightful and very revealing. It put me on a big Mescaleros kick!
W(TF)
It's really more of a novelistic memoir. Good stuff. That's a likely explanation, but there are others. (this topic fascinated me as well) For one thing, Dylan was doing a lot of mind expanding drugs at the time. It's possible that he fixated on some things and retained the memories of them. Also, there was a point when Dylan became self-aware, or, aware of the 'greatness' of what he was doing. It wouldn't surprise me if he at some point started jotting notes of things down for a future book. Another possibility is that he used some situations in penning songs that never saw the light of day, but which he kept in a trunk somewhere. As ever, the mystery with Bob is a big part of it, and we really don't wanna spoil that by knowing the mundane details, do we?
mjpuczko
i wouldn't doubt for a second that he jotted down notes back then. seems like something he'd do.
