TCP
Exactly. It breaks my heart every time I see that almost 40 page post for baseball. I guess that's America for you though. Panther, my respect for you just doubled. I know The Leafs must be like a cult there, power to you brutha.
markosis
Most Americans don't have the attention span for hockey. I didn't until I started going to AHL games. Seeing it live opened the doors for me.
bobbob1313
I don't get why it has to be one sport versus the other. I love both hockey and baseball, but baseball is my passion. That doesn't mean I dislike hockey or anything like that. The attention span comment holds no weight for me, baseball is way more tedious and longer than hockey. It's just not part of the culture like baseball, plain and simple.
TCP
I dunno, it's not a knock on baseball it just does NOTHING for me, I'd like to get into it cause I'm trying to get a career in broadcasting so that'd help but... yeah. Same with basketball. For me it'll always be hockey with a weee bit of football, lacrosse, or soccer.

TCP
Avery's such a prick, especially what he said about Marty after. He lacks any professionalism and class.

TCP
WHAT!?!? Why! And if I was the NHL Commissioner, I would eliminate any and all teams south of St. Louis. With less teams, the Eastern and Western Conferences could play each other during the regular season. I would also bring back the old conference and division names.I dunno about that! 82 games, is enough to play 29 other teams once at home, once on the road, with the rest of the games being down the stretch inter-division games, so things get tense like this season. If you have a player like Crosby or Ovechkin, they should get to every arena in the league. I'd move the Coyotes back to Winnipeg, the Predators to Seattle, Thrashers to Portland, Lightening to Winnipeg, Canes to Hamilton, and Panthers to Quebec City. Oh and Leafs to Mexico City. Just kidding. Seriously though, it's stupid that Florida has TWO struggling hockey teams and Seattle and Portland, places with a history of hockey (Seattle was the first American city to win the cup, Portland challenged for it, both cities have successful WHL teams) have none. But there's probably a reason why Gary Bettman has his job and I have mine. But really, I just think the Red Wings should go where they belong, the Eastern Conference. markosis
/\ agreed. And get rid of the instigator rule.
tongue-tied lightning
I wouldn't have shaken hands with Avery either
bjorn_skurj
The Northeastern U.S. has been bleeding population for decades to the South and Southwest, so it wasn't a huge defiance of logic to think that teams located near populations of transplanted hockey fans would succeed. While I don't think the Old Six is coming back anytime soon, some transplantation (Cleveland without a hockey team?) might make sense.
TCP
I can't tell you much about America as I've never been there (except for Washington state) but has there really been enough people from the North East to the south that can support numerous NHL franchises? Just seems like people from Texas and Florida and Carolina have a hard time identifying with hockey, for whatever reason. Where as places like Seattle or Winnipeg would probably be a better market. Especially now that Seattle lost their NBA team. Remember, since Gary Bettman has been the commissioner teams have moved out of "traditional" markets like Minnesota and Winnipeg and Quebec and places like Florida (x2), Nashville, and Carolina now have teams. The league is probably six teams too big for its own good, but I haven't heard anyone talk contraction yet.
TCP
I'd love to lose 4-6 teams. The talent pool would be a lot better. But that won't happen, though I doubt we'll see more then 30 teams for at least a decade, if not more.
Panther
I broke many things in my house last night no joke, montreal broke my heart game 7 it is
bobbob1313
The Panthers have a very dedicated fan base. They average 80% capacity (the best of any South Florida franchise). And this is a team that hasn't made the playoffs since 99-00. I'd say they aren't struggling anywhere except on the ice, which won't change if they move.
bjorn_skurj
How does Columbus have a hockey team and not Cleveland?
TCP
How many Panthers games are televised? 80% still isn't good I mean, the Canucks are 200+ sell outs, Minnissota have sold out every home game they've ever played. In fact, look at this. That's the lowest in the league. Plus, the Panthers are well known for GIVING away tickets. That list is kind of surprising, though I'd imagine Washington would go up due to Ovechkin and Chicago should be looking better now that they have a new owner and are televising ALL their games. Anyways, I don't want to have a dispute about this, I just think that there needs to be SOME relocation, to Seattle, Winnipeg, and maybe Cleveland. As I type this, Nashville just got eliminated. A pretty good season for them. Dan Ellis is one hell of a goalie.
bobbob1313
Well, I think it's very important to remember that the Panthers haven't made the playoffs in almost a decade, and all of their games are televised. South Florida is a bandwagon town, if they were competitive, you'd have sell outs every night. That's just the way we are, it has nothing to do with hockey.
tongue-tied lightning
I broke many things in my house last night no joke, montreal broke my heart game 7 it is going to be one heck of a game tomorrow night, so hold onto something. just one more Bruins, one more
TCP
I would be BLOWN away if Boston won three in a row again Montreal. 3-1 for Montreal.
