insideoutoflove
wow that setlist looks killer..pick up the change, company in my back, box full of letters, hesitating beauty (i think ive only heard jeff do that solo..) sounds like it was an amazing night! seems like they're getting better and better with every show on this tour
Kalle
they played it a total of 11 times last year. Haha yeah I know exageration but the two times I saw them last year and quite a few other times on the Canadian tour they opened with it. Ohhhh well I just thought they wouldn't give it up so quickly.
jared
The show at Crossroads last night was about my 10th Wilco show, I can't recall exactly. While I love the current line-up, I didn't exactly "love" the show last night. It was the venue that pretty much ruined it for me. The band seemed to be annoyed b4 the show, as someone else posted as well. I saw a few of them when I was walking in and they were all on their cell phones and looked irritated. And I saw Pat after Bird's performance and he looked "highly pissed off". Anyway, the "MC" as ppl have complained about was/is the owner of the restaurant, Grinders, and I assume he also owns the venue. He is, indeed, highly annoying . As for the comment he made about Elton John? I didn't hear it, but I doubt, very seriously it was inflammatory to Sir Elton Hercules John's sexual orientation, as the MC/Owner fella is from what I've read a homosexual himself. At least I read that anyway. And, he addressed me as "babe" one time in his stinkhole restaurant, and I am a male. Another thing that annoyed me was the ppl that continually would walk right up in front of me and stand right in front of me, no more than a foot away... and I wasn't close up, at all even. Just completly oblivious to anybody but themselves and their stupid Jayhawk hats. As for the fireworks? Meh. They were "Fair" at best, but it was a nice thought. I don't think I'll ever attend another concert at the Crossroads, the staff is too rude, and you have to be pretty much in the center to see the whole stage... at least w/ the setup from last night. I didn't think the sound was so good either. Also, as for Tweedy stating that the crowd was "amazing" or whatever? Well, I think if we were to take that same crowd and put them in an indoor theater, he would have thought differently, the crowd, from all 4-5 different places I was at was very talkative and loud and if we were to have been indoors it would have been much more noticeable. Also, something was "amiss" with the sound during Bird's performance... Nels was standing behind me (slouched in a corner leaning against a beer stand) and he stated that he hoped it didn't happen when they were performing. And, for the person that stated that it's hard to "sing a long" to Bird's performances? Good. There is nothing more annoying than ppl that sing along to performances. Just a "head's up". We don't pay 30 bucks to hear you sing. Yeah, there's times to sing a lyric or two duiring Wilco shows, but singing along to a song so that you are trying to impress everyone around you is borderline criminal in my book. The band was in good form tho, as usual. Quite a bit more distortion coming from Nels than I ever remember. Haven't seen as much banter out of Tweedy since a few years ago when he got on a girl's cell phone, while on stage, and had a conversation with the girl's mother. KC people, don't take offense to my writing. I'm a jerk. I must admit, I suppose it was somewhat pretextual, as I very much dislike Grinders. That place is a dirty, dirty restaurant with an "i'm cooler than you" staff that seems as tho they have never worked a job b4, left alone in a restaurant.
sullivand
Great great show. Enjoy it again, or for the first time if you couldn't make it, here:http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=166378p.s. I stood just to the right of the soundboard, and the sound was perfection there.
blindgonzo
wow! that was fast. thanks so much for the work you put into this. i'll be listening to it tonight!
Spawn's dad
The rain finished up about mid afternoon when we were all sitting down for lunch. The night was perfect. My concern was for the venue ground which was soggy mulch when Sarah and I were there earlier in the week. It was an interesting juxtaposition of Wilco doing soundcheck, while a crew spread dumptrucks of dry mulch on the ground. Sarah had a great time. I was nearly blinded by her bouncing ponytail. Periodically she would turn and kiss me out of sheer exuberance. She seemed to experience the music in such a pure, unfettered way. So fun to share that with her. (Now I know what it would be like to stand behind me at a show. ) thanks for calling me during pick up the change
sullivand
wow! that was fast. thanks so much for the work you put into this. i'll be listening to it tonight! Don't thank me -- the only work I did was finding it. Sam Stratton is the taper. Thanks, Sam! p.s. The KC Star's review is now online -- I think they pretty much nailed it. That place is a dirty, dirty restaurant with an "i'm cooler than you" staff that seems as tho they have never worked a job b4, left alone in a restaurant. I agree with this in its entirety. This was by far my least favorite Wilco show and it had to do with the venue, the crowd, and the general lack of energy in the crowd. It also doesn't help that I think KC is a shithole and never go there except for concerts (and this last show will keep me from going to Crossroads again). Also, MU lost to Oklahoma just as Andrew Bird's set was ending, I think that's why Wilco was annoyed.
mgsooner
Sorry, don't agree. Great fucking show. Casino Queen made me jump out of my shoes. The band seemed to be enjoying themselves during the show, and so was I. That's really all I care about. This wasn't as good as some of the DBT shows I've been to, but it was damn good. I loved hearing all of the older stuff. Sure the venue has it's annoyances, particularly the fact that they acted like they were SHOCKED that anyone wanted to purchase pizza at the concessions...like they've never had a show there before. It was like 7:45 and they still didn't have any ready to serve. They said "five minutes", but they should have said 30. There were some annoying people around me at first that were dancing around like MTV Grind and arguing with other people over their talking, but I just moved to the other side and the people there were great. It always amuses me that people get pissed off because people are talking and their response to that is to start an argument with them. Doesn't that just create more talking and noise? Anyways, the positives of last night FAR, FAR, FAR outweigh the negatives. Thanks Wilco for an unforgettable night.
pclinto
Hi everyone. This is my first post here. Last night was my second Wilco show. I thought it was awesome. Great set list.Stayed around afterwards and got to meet the band and got my albums signed. They were all very cool. Can't wait for them to come around again.
popnfresh
yes vip was seriously annoying. i ran into a guy at a bar later that night who i spotted in vip who asked me if i had ever heard of wilco....blah, blah, blah...then drunkenly proceeded to ask me what the lyrics to box full of letters were...while touching me and overwhelming my friends behind the bar. however, while this show seemed to attract a load of idiots (including streach) i stand by the fact that kc is NOT a shithole. i love this city. ps. pat did seem like he was having much more fun on friday when we were all dancing at mccoys though. jared
What's DBT? Yeah, you're right about the arguing with talkers. I don't even say anything. I move, well, that is if it's GA. I chuckle about your pizza story. I ate there when I picked up ticket last week. I waited 43 minutes for my sandwich and over 15 for them to take my money. All the while the owner and manager were sitting right next to me and didn't take notice. You know, KC has it's good sides (affordable housing being the best) , but, for my 2 years year from the West coast, I've had more bad than good. Every single home-repair guy that's come to my house has tried to scam me, all my neighbors are white-trash, and, I don't feel safe in a lot of parts of this town. I am taking a liking to the Chiefs tho. They are entertaining.

tmckumed
Agreed - the show was fantastic! Also agreed - I wish the MC guy had stayed home!! That guy was annoying from the jump. A minor distraction, however. My wife and I saw Wilco almost exactly one year ago in Wichita at a little venue called The Cottillion, which holds maybe a thousand people (this was the show right before the now-infamous Springfield, MO show, incidentally). The venue wasn't even close to full - there were maybe 200-300 folks there and we thought it was a good show, but this one was a thousand times better. Last year was the first time we had seen Wilco live and last night's show had such fantastic energy, a great set list (minus a couple of our favorites, but that's always how it goes). Andrew Bird was good, too, but Wilco was on fire! What a show! The venue is nice, but a bit weird - I kept stepping on sticks/mulch and the guys at the gate taped the ID band thingy on my wrist so tight it cut off the circulation to my hand! Twice! The kid at the gate was nice enough to fix it for me, so no complaints, though. I'm so glad we were there!

Thanks, and yes, very quick post, nice work.
fatheadfred
Saw them in Austin, Columbia, and now KC during this tour. Good times. I thought the venue was good. Jons and brews easy to access, nice soft footing. KC has good things, you just have to search since everything is so spread out. The area around Sprint will be pretty cool once it gets rolling. How 'bout the screamin chick? (my wife) She really needs to get into filming horror movies. I thought Tweedy was truly shaking, then came to his wit and conceded then told her to zip it. We had a good time SINGING and DANCING. This is rock n' roll, not church. And, Columbia rocked 'cept when I listen to the show I keep hearing sorority girls talking during Sky Blue Sky and Jesus, etc.
jared
kc has good things i'm sure. how about some advice? the one thing i've liked here for sure: seasons and the bbq. l live in the northland (parkville) and i'm single and still kinda young (36) so, i'm probably living in the wrong part of town. and, don't take offense, but do you really think it's ok to sing at a concert? i'm sure YOU had fun singing, hell yeah, i'd love to sing at a concert, just as i sing along in the car and at home, but NOT around people that paid good money to hear someone else sing.
