yermom
I never realized how many horror movies I've actually seen until this thread. I don't think of myself as a horror-movie person, but I've managed to see a lot of the biggies mentioned here anyhow. However, I have definitely not seen "Blood Sucking Freaks," though I'm sure it a very, very fine film.

Good Old Neon
Bong Joon-ho's "The Host" is an absolute must see. More of a classic, Godzilla-esque monster movie than traditional horror, but brilliant none the less.
OOO
Bong Joon-ho's "The Host" is an absolute must see. More of a classic, Godzilla-esque monster movie than traditional horror, but brilliant none the less. I wasn't too hot on this one, though I think mainly it was because it was heavily hyped up before I saw it. My viewing partner wanted to watch it dubbed, which may have been the problem as well... At any rate, I was hoping you were going to make this thread more interesting and say: "None of these movies are nearly as scary as "An Inconvenient Truth" or "Sicko"." Hippycat
I'm partial to both of John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness and The Thing. I like The Thing more, but I always appreciate it better when it's cold out (actually it's rather nice today, sunny and relatively warm). Of course the DVD for The Thing is loaded with extras too, but that's not really important tonight. Prince of Darkness also has Alice Cooper in it, so there's that. Myself I'm sticking to some gorefest zombie flicks tonight: Dawn of the Dead (the remake), and 28 Days Later. Though if my girlfriend starts getting too freaked out I might just put on the Halloween episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for her.

quarter23cd
Carnival of Souls (1962)I'm always amazed when I come across people who have seen this. I can't put my finger on why, but this movie creeps the hell out of me. Not scary, per se, but very atmospheric...it hangs with you.

ZenLunatic
Evil Dead 1 and 2 are the classics. The Shinning is chilling and artsy. Communion scared me the first time through and I cant say many movies do that at all.
EL the Famous
the movie as a whole is standard low-budget late-80's horror fare...gore, gratuitous shower scene, flimsy plot. however, there are two scenes in 'Luther the Geek' that have earned it a spot in the Top 10 Slasher Flicks my buddy Kevin and I compiled in 1989: - one genuinely scary-as-hell scene, where you see the killer coming towards the house out of a screen door behind the woman he's about to kill. - the absolutely so-stupid it's-brilliant climatic confrontation between the heroine and killer, where she stops him in his tracks by speaking 'geek' to him (which consists of chicken cluck noises). Lammycat
I rented a movie about fifteen years ago that featured a porn actress (I forget her name) who killed people through the teeth in her armpits. It wasn't a porno. I guess it wasn't really scary either. Mommie Dearest scared the tar out of me, though.
Lammycat
My favorite scary movie of all-time is Rosemary's Baby, mostly because it plays out its premise--a pregnant woman is losing her mind, or maybe she really is carrying Satan's child?--as credible, creepy drama. It really got under my skin. This flick is more a psychological horror flick. There is a lot of suspense and a great plot but no gore/guts for sheer terror factor. Which makes it a very good flick, in my book. The Exorcist still rankles me on the scarey level. Psycho still gets the job done, too.Perkins is just so damn creepy in it and Hitchcock is a master of suspense. As scarey/Horror movies aren't really my bag, I thought The Village was pretty good on this front. I know this movie gets slammed often but I'm not so sure why. I was intriqued by it and thought it was pretty well done. the suspense and creepyness factors worked well on me, too.

jahilia
One of the creepiest movies I've ever seen is Ju-on - the original, not the remake with Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Lammycat
'Rabid' starring Marilyn Chambers of 'Behind the Green Door' fame.Yes! It was Rabid. How could I have forgotten the name?! The chick I was dating at the time was ticked that it was the only thing I brought home from Blockbuster that night. Also, I just remembered the original movie of The Body Snatchers was a pretty good scare. And the original The Blob was both funny and scary to me as a kid.
