Wilco Winter Residency

Recommended Posts

Man, Wilco could make some easy cash if they just recorded this and packaged it up as a big box set. Not that making easy cash is their intention, just saying...they could if they wanted. And people would buy it, even without a DVD.

I predict they'll release a double disc of music along with a DVD, like the original idea of KT.

Anyone suspect special guests?

Good question.

Mr. A. Bird does not appear to have any shows of his own scheduled for that time frame on his tour/Myspace page.

Wouldn't that make for a nice treat.

And while I'm fantasizing ... I'd love to see Leroy Bach there as well.

Does anyone know if the neighbourhood around the theatre is relatively safe? What's the chances of catching a taxi around there? Most likely I'll be getting a hotel in the Loop area, not exactly close, so I'll proabably train it up, but taxi it back.

uh oh :unsure Someone once quit the board over this very question.

I saw Ryan Adams there a few years ago, my first trip to chicago ever. Friends dropped us off at the venue, but we had no problem getting on the train and taking it back into downtown to our hotel. I found it a perfectly comfortable, safe place to be. But maybe i have a higher tolerance for what other people think is scary.

The five-night pass sounds good in theory, but I think I'd be burnt out after the second or third night. That's not because of Wilco -- I just personally don't have the stamina or attention span to go to five shows over six nights, no matter who's playing.

...which is too bad, because I'd love to hear the "Complete Wilco" ... I just don't think I'm up for it. :ohwell

Does Wilco have five nights of material. I hear alot of jamming coming up.....

If someone gets a pass and can't use it I will be happy to take it off their hands, since I won't be by a computer tomorrow. It is tomorrow right??

!

P.S., Nobody in Chicago can ever bitch about needing more Wilco shows ever again, officially. I mean, don't they ordinarily play there something like 60 times a fucking year anyway...?

Uh no..........this is the first time they have played a regular show (not Millenium Park) since the beginning of the SBS tour.

And I am serious about taking an extra pass off someone if they buy two and can't use one......PM me me...you know my name, look up my number....

not sure about $$$, but password is, i believe, whatlight

and for those asking about the neighborhood... it's in uptown, which as of a few years ago, was, i believe, the safest neighborhood in the city... lowest crime rate. a lot homeless people, but safe. but that was like 5 years ago that i heard all of that.

I wouldnt say the safest neighborhood in the city. Its not really scary or dangerous, but if I was a girl, I wouldnt be wandering the streets at night alone unless you really had to. There still are lots of homeless people and a sketchy feeling. A bunch of new bars opened up of late near Riv so Uptown is shaping up.

Like anywhere else in Chicago, things can change block by block. Its not an area I would be wandering around in late at night outside of the main drag. etc. Yes it has improved over the past few years, but still not the best.

Goodness. Uptown is a bit scary, but hardly as scary as it was a couple decades ago and with a big concert in the area, there will be plenty of people on the streets...don't go down and alleys alone and if you are coming alone, park in one of the lots nearby and you will be fine.

And remember, if you can't use your pass (or any part of it) I will gladly take any part.

Yeah, that area used to be a lot more sketchy back when I used to go to shows at the Riv during college. It's gotten a bit gentrified, like a lot of parts of the city. Even then, it wasn't all that scary. That was, yikes, in the mid 90s. Dang, time flies.

The legendary Green Mill is right around the corner from the Riv. That's definitely worth checking out for some jazz or a poetry slam if you're visiting Chicago.

Green Mill is nice. Very classic Jazz place. Broadway is starting to get some business to it if you havent been there in a year or so. Just need that Theater to open up and some more restuarants and bars. I can see that area coming. The crowd is very mixed according to what may be playing at Aragon or Riv.

Not disputing any of that. Just saying for people who have never been in the area before, its not the same type of neighborhood as Metro, or Double Door, and you do need to exercise a little more caution if you wind up parking on a side street.
