boredintheusa
Can any one recommend some good new tunes to me? I want something to take over my life. Anything will work... Thank You.........
markosis
This band from Philly, Aderbat, needs some exposure. I have a feeling some of them may be tied down to day jobs or some such crap, but they should be huge. AderbatGo to itunes and buy their album Rabbits and Rocks. You won't be let down. While you're at it, go on their Myspace friends list and check out Peasant as well.
PopTodd
I've recommended these before, but please allow me to again: Joe Pisapia - DaydreamsSimply the best album of the new millennium. The closest comparison I can come up with is Nick Drake, but that's not fair. Pisapia has more of a pop sensibility, but this record is certainly not pop. Every second is heart-wrenchingly beautiful. Some of it painfully so. "Dancing Partner" just kills me, and when I have played it for friends, they just sat there, numb for a fill minute after. This is not an exaggeration. On the other end...Tom Z
Lynch
I spent the weekend listening to older music that was new to me. Belle and Sebastian, MC5, The Stooges, stuff I had never really listened to before. boredintheusa, have you tried the last.fm software on your computer? Its a neat way of getting recommendations for music you might like, based on what you listen to in your media player.

I forget the exact reason it gave the last time I tried.

lizish
Bejar - oh yeah, and without question Streethawk: a Seduction. The others are also good, although I never warmed to Yer Blues. Heard, (but have not heard), his new one is very good.
PopTodd
Just a bump for the Pisapia MySpace link:http://www.myspace.com/joepisapia Oh, and "Dancing Partner" is, in fact, on there. But please be warned, if you're already feeling morose, this song will not help.

aricandover
Boom Boom Satellites are just plain awesome. Boom Boom Satellites are a Japanese electronic music duo consisting of Michiyuki Kawashima and Masayuki Nakano. While their music can be mostly coined as big beat or nu skool breaks, and they are heavily influenced by jazz, they are famous for using a lot of electric guitars and the final product often has a strong rock or punk flavor. In 2004, they contributed numerous songs to the soundtrack of the anime film Appleseed, and also the 2007 anime film Vexille. their newest album, Exposed is a good place to start. Some of it painfully so. "Dancing Partner" just kills me, and when I have played it for friends, they just sat there, numb for a fill minute after. This is not an exaggeration. I second this recommendation. It also reminded me of Nick Drake in some way. I said about the same thing when I reviewed it a few years ago for a French magazine. Other artists also enjoyed this album. Josh Rouse said it was his favorite of 2002. And Jenifer Jackson (a fave singer of mine) enjoyed it as well. The only blame that Joe deserves, it's to not have promoted his album enough, and take too much time for recording another. It's as if he did his best to be forgotten. Same goes for another singer songwriter, John Cunningham. PopTodd, go the latter's site, http://www.johncunningham.co.uk and listen to anything you can from his masterpiece called Homeless House. He also has a myspace. It will remind you of Nick Drake as well, as well as Robert Wyatt and the quiet Lennon side. It's intoxicating melancholia, wet, aerial, misty, endlessly graceful.
