tomthumb86
I'm going to have to disagree with last night being a snoozer compared to tuesday. Overall, I thought the pace of the show, playing and especially sound were much better. But thats me. The Sunken opener into Mountain bed was stunningly beautiful as was the On and On played right before an incredible Via Chicago. Some serious intense emotion durring last night. Both nights though were by far the best wilco shows I have ever seen. I hope we'll see them at 930 again some day. They could certainly start playing a bigger place in the area if the really wanted, I hope not.
bigshoulders
anyone know exactly what songs the Total pros played on? I'm making a text file for my recording & wanted to try to get it right. so far I have:Yay! I am glad to hear you were there taping.-kevin They could certainly start playing a bigger place in the area if the really wanted, I hope not. They have, and it's not nearly as sweet.-kevin
cbd
They have, and it's not nearly as sweet.-kevin no doubt. that Constitution Hall show with Sonic Youth was about as impersonal & low energy as it gets
tomthumb86
Hey all! I was right in the front (middle) on the first night and right in front of pat, on the rail, the second night. Here's a link to some of the pictures i got from the 2 nights. Sorry some are a little blurry, still figuring out this new phone. Enjoy. Hey all! yadasacker
Yeah, the Sonic Youth/Wilco show was definitely pretty bad. Unfortunately, in DC bands on the cusp of playing a bigger venue than the 930 have to head to DAR which is a god awful place for a rock show.

I saw Ryan Adams and the Cardinals there back in october and honestly it was probably the best sound I have ever heard at a concert in my life. I've been there before and its been shit, but if the sound is done right, it can be blissful. You could hear ever fucking note at that show.
isadorah
Unfortunately, in DC bands on the cusp of playing a bigger venue than the 930 have to head to DAR which is a god awful place for a rock show. I heard the band loves playing the 9:30 club and they'll always play there when they come to DC, that DAR is awful and they'll likely never do that again, instead they'll do at least two nights at 9:30! they also apparently like playing merriweather in the warmer months. tomthumb86, there were two people between us last night on the rail. great pics! i forgot to mention, the macrame owl made it out onto Nels' guitar last night as well! there's an article in the style section of today's washington post. haven't seen yet myself, but was told to go grab a paper. cbd
I'm surprised to hear that. I have never seen a show at Const Hall where I even thought the sound was anything more than a muddy mess. I wish bands would bypass Constitution Hall for The Warner Theater. Widespread Panic has been playing there the last couple years & the sound is very rich het tomthub: I usually use a good pic when I post my torrents. would you mind if I used one of those? jakobnicholas
I got to hear the show via the stream. Pieholden Suite is fantastic. Jar is always great. And hearing the band and Total Pros rip into Monday makes me hope they play it on SNL. (Or Casino Queen.....that song sounds SO good now.)
yadasacker
I swore off DAR for literally the past four years and ended up getting third row WEEN tickets there a month or so back, so I went and the sound was actually pretty awesome. They may have finally figured things out for that place with the sound, but it's still an awful place for a rock show. Seats, no booze, lack of energy, blah blah... tomthumb86
wilco at the warner is definantly something I could get into, of course id prefer 930, but the warner is classy.

tomthumb86
Is there a studio recording of Roses Bloom Again? I totally thought it was Blood of the Lamb at first but there was a girl in front of me who corrected me.
Rusty Shackleford
That was the first time I'd been to the 9:30 in about 10 years. It's a great venue, and certainly better than DAR. But I really like Merriweather, especially in the summer (obviously). I had a better time in the pit at last year's Merriweather show, although that's probably because it was my first Wilco show. Last night's set list was certainly a good one, but I was down front on one side, directly in front of Pat, about 10 feet from the stage, and I thought the sound was overly bass-heavy and generally a bit muddy. I assume it was better in the middle of the venue. Loved the energy of the up-tempo numbers, even though I couldn't hear the words. My favorite highlights from the show: Jeff getting the wrong harmonica and switching mid-song in She's a JarPat losing the strap from his guitar twice in the same songJeff playing up close and personal to the talkative folks in the frontNels kicking ass on John Doe's cover of "Gimme Shelter"Pieholden SuiteThe whole second encore, especially Casino Queen and MondayJeff's continued joking-but-not-joking about the Grammys

itstillmoves84
i jeff was in rare form. my favorite part, when he told the girl to shhhh during "when the roses bloom again" than got out on the edge of the stage and played the guitar over emphatically to send her a message "there's a rock concert going on here" hence the comment after that song about them needing a light to let people know a concert is going on. I was standing right in front of Nels about 2 people from the stage and what was going on here was quite peculiar. I didn't quite hear what the yammering was about, or how it even started but basically what I gathered was that this older woman and younger woman were in an argument. The younger woman appeared to be under 21 but anyways. What I gathered is that the older woman (who was dancing quite feverishly) was probably bumping into the younger one quite a bit and she got ticked off. Well an argument ensued and completely spoiled the beauty of when the roses bloom again. Everyone around was telling the older woman to shut the fuck up but she kept going. I've been to hundreds of shows in my life, and I understand obviously people dance and they do have a right. But people also have their space, and there are nicer ways to say things. C'mon, it's Wilco, not Slayer. But the older woman just wouldn't let it go. She was being quite unruly and just wouldn't shut up. Hence Jeff's comment which was absolutely hilarious when you could see her face after he said that. Then everyone in our section jeering her as he said it. She almost got kicked out but somehow managed to get back in but that was the end of that. Definitely poor etiquette, especially when this show was WILCO at the 9:30 club. Tickets are scarce and you have to go off spoiling it for people. Listening to the stream now, sounds great. I saw the girl with the doll before, it was quite weird. tugmoose
This is why I don't bother trying to get a great spot up front anymore: you invest time and effort, then find yourself next to some needy person doing the "Me Show," bound and determined to make the night about him/her.
