lizish
I've Fallen In Love off Bap Kennedy's first record on Steve Earle's e-squared label. A really beautiful, simple love song that my wife adored and we hadn't heard at a wedding before or since. That's a great choice. Got me thinking that later on you could play 'Unforgiven' or 'Only water' to reflect the harsh realities of married life.
DAngerer09
I don't get many things right the first timeIn fact, I am told that a lotNow I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and fallsBrought me here And where was I before the dayThat I first saw your lovely face? Now I see it everydayAnd I know That I amI amI amThe luckiest What if Id been born fifty years before youIn a house on a street where you lived? Maybe Id be outside as you passed on your bikeWould I know? And in a white sea of eyesI see one pair that I recognizeAnd I know That I amI amI amThe luckiest I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you Next door theres an old man who lived to his ninetiesAnd one day passed away in his sleepAnd his wife; she stayed for a couple of daysAnd passed away Im sorry, I know thats a strange way to tell you that I know we belongThat I know That I amI amI amThe luckiest
WilcoOfTheDay
I dig the luckiest for a first song too
H-Bomb Henry
Might I recommend "All the Right Reasons" by the Jayhawks? I was just discussing this topic with friends that are getting married in June. This was the first song played at my wedding. Harvest Moon was the last song. I have to say that Harvest Moon is the greatest song to hear at any fall event. Hesitating Beauty was played during the garter toss.
markosis
Just remember, you don't need a song with lyrics. A Coltrane rendition of a ballad would do fine. I'd recommend "Time After Time." Or most any jazz ballad, really.
Pocahontas
Mountain Beds brother surprised us at our wedding before I walked down the aisle, he sang Wonderful Tonight, this was also the song I chose for our first dance.
iarooster
I got married in a private ceremony at home, so no music for the service, no reception, and no dance. The first dance song would have been "Here, There and Everywhere" by The Beatles if we'd have had one. But at least this way she got to save it for the first dance at her second wedding. Or maybe the third...
TheMaker
Ho ho ho, nooooo, thank you, I'm never getting married, but if I were ever brainwashed or had my fucking brain erased or something, I'd want Remember the Mountain Bed to grace my ceremony, no doubt!
m_thomp
I'd be interested to hear from anyone unfortunate enough to choose either James Blunt's You're Beautiful or Paul Weller's You Do Something To Me.
Welsh Rich
There's got to be thousands of people who've used though. My mate recently used the Super Furry Animals "Fire in my heart" as their first dance - it was lovely.
m_thomp
Thousands may have used them, but both songs are about unrequited love. Hardly a great omen for a happy future. Under consideration: New Porns' Go Places, and Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead.
Bubs101
I think my good taste would givew way to Bon Jovi's Always.
