Sweet Papa Crimbo
I don't know who should open for whom but a bill of Wilco and Neil Young with Crazy Horse would be a dream...... Listen...I love Wilco like a fat kid loves pie, but I don't think there is ANY doubt who the opener would be in your scenario.

Lammycat
Meat PuppetsI love the Pups but would probably be too amped to sit/stand through some of the slower Wilco tunes after seeing them open. Maybe not though. re: JT opening for Wilco- Warren Haynes, arguably the hardest working man in Rock these days, has opened shows solo and then played with his band Gov.'t Mule or with Phil & Friends (full show) or the ABB (full show). I saw him at Red Rocks in the parking lot about 4-5 years ago on a make-shift stage for about 70-100 of us that were hanging around that particualr area. He played solo for about 30 min. and then hooped into a courtesy van back up to the venue. Then he opened the show solo for about 30-45 minutes inside. then came out to play the full show with Phil & Friends. I think JT opening for Wilco would be a perfect fit. Three dollars and 63 cents
How fucking hot was it that night? I can't believe Jeff wore that jacket. It was pretty damn hot, if I remember correctly. Then again, last summer I saw Bob Dylan at the Pines two days after Wilco, and he was in a three-piece suit when it was probably about 95. I was seriously expecting him to pass out during the first few songs, or at least take of his coat. Back on topic, I'd enjoy seeing Frank Black or the Breeders open for Wilco. I'm still bitter about the Pixies show I was supposed to see on their reunion tour getting canceled, and I've resigned myself to the fact that the closest I'll probably ever get now is seeing their various side/solo projects. yermom
I like Clem Snide! Although I only know End of Love. I think they'd be fun to see before Wilco. They're actually disbanded, but the main fella, Eef Barzelay, flys solo beautifully! I made a thread about him recently. Check it out. He's one of my absolute favorite musicians ever.

Todd SniderI used to catch the Gibb Droll Band often in the late 80s/early 90s when I lived in Roanoke, VA. vey good stuff. I hadn't thought of him in years.... And Todd's my boy. He opened for YMSB up at Red Rocks last year and it was a decent fit. Unfortunately, I'd suspect a lot of talking over his opening set, though.

Unfortunately, I'd suspect a lot of talking over his opening set, though.Since Gibby moved to NYC he doesn't come down south... Back a few years Gibb and Kevn played lots of shows together.Sometimes Gibb would open for Kevn/Suntangled Angel Revival. He was playing alot with Marc Broussard... Like I say he isn't in the south anymore I hope someday to see Red Rocks... A dream show would be to see Wilco there (the trick would be getting there )At least Todd does still come around the south sometimes... It don't seem to bother him when the crowd is loud, he just keeps right on playing... Either one of these guys or with their bands would be an awesome opener for Wilco

oceanman
2nd Clem Snide,Cracker, and Isbell. Dr. Dog is pretty hard to beat. Just enough to pump you up, but not blow your wad for Wilco.
