The Disco Biscuits. I'd be afraid someone would spike my beer with molly or ketamine or something and I'd have way too much fun.

If you there was one band you've never seen live...but would be afraid to be hurt in the crowd who would it be?

Mine would be Smashing Pumpkins...

youre afraid of seeing smashing pumpkins live? really?

howbout bands like the misfits or early black flag, id fight billy corgan before stepping foot into a misfits show.

I saw The Butthole Surfers a couple times in the mid/late 80s and there were some tense moments and a bit of blood.

I'm not sure I fully understand the question but I'll go with G.G. Allin and the fear would be having fecal matter hurled at me.

Yes..i dunno...I just picture all these big guys jumping around and lil ol me getting stomped on. I'd only go if there were balcony reserved seating i think!

I'm really worried when people think fecal matter could be thrown at them...what makes you think that could happen?!

I'd be pretty tempted to check out Sunn O))) if they were playing near me but I'd die if that "brown note" business actually went down.

Other than that, I could probably come up with a hundred bands that would be fun to see but whose fans I would fear encountering in a bar show environment. Antiseen is the first thing that came to mind or a really rowdy Hank III crowd.

One of the few moments in which I've genuinely feared for my life occurred at a Jesus and Mary Chain show at the Brixton Academy in the fall of 1988. When the band took the stage, there was such a rush to the front that the crowd packed in tightly enough to lift me off the floor. Several times, I felt my feet leave the floor involuntarily, then I was moved left or right a few feet and deposited back down to the floor with a hard thud, before being swept up again. It took me two songs' worth of panic before I fought my way out of that and retreated to the back of the main floor.

Those of you who've met me know that I'm a large person. I was somewhat smaller then, but still football-lineman sized.

I don't know if the whole situation was more because of the crowd, the venue, or the combination of both, but if I ever go see JAMC again, or another show at the Academy, I'll stand in the back.

The only time I've been genuinely frightened at a show (and my experience is limited) was at a Metallica/Danzig show in the early 90s. That "mosh pit" was not for pussies--or 5'5 girls who didn't want their ankles broken. There was a moment of sheer terror before I was able to escape. I'm certain there are much scarier places to be, but it didn't feel that way at the time.

I bet WASP shows were scary. A-man? Any real headless children?

I saw Marilyn Manson with Helmet and Rasputina in Little Rock back in '97 when I was fourteen. My friends and I got right down front and engaged in some pit action. We thought it was totally awesome that we could claw and scratch at sweaty, shirtless dudes bouncing all around us without reprisal. At one point, Manson encouraged the crowd to spit on him, which basically meant that everyone behind me who was spitting at the stage was spitting all over me. I got a loogie in my hair. :hmm

Being so young, we had two adult escorts, my friend's mom and her male friend. They were a bit hippyish and the guy actually tried to break up some slamming concert goers while saying, "Silence the violence! Increase the peace!" It was a tad embarrassing to us little goth girls who were doing our best to look like bad asses. :blush

Damn on the loogies in the hair. My brother-in-law is tour manager for Helmet right now (yep, they still tour...) so my hubby went to see them near Milwaukee this fall. They still offer up a constant wall of sound.

Neato! I actually enjoyed them the most that night. They've got a good sound.

My husband got completely knocked out cold at a Gorilla Biscuits show a couple years ago...I think that was the craziest show I've ever seen, and I've seen my share. I think it was amplified by the fact that it was one of the final CBGB shows.

I nearly had my upper arm broken last year at my husband's band's reunion show by a guy who stood on it and used it to push off into a stage dive (I had my arm across the monitor). I had a perfect boot print bruise on my arm. You could actually see the individual treads. It didn't go away for over a month. I remember, in the few seconds the guy was standing on it, thinking "in a minute I'm going to have a broken arm, and there's nothing I can do about it".

I stayed the hell out of the Misfits/Gwar pit, mostly because of the spikes. But I did get right into a Rollins Band pit. He rules.

Wonders if you were also in Davenport at the Adler?

Whenever I saw Fugazi I was always mildly worried about being scolded from the stage for not acting properly in the audience, even though I wasn't really doing anything. I should probably add Wilco to this list. :lol

I've seen a few mosh pits get out of control, but none immediately come to mind. The most I've ever felt myself to be in physical danger was, strangely enough, watching Rancid play a Warped Tour show. It was hardly a "scary" environment--bunch of suburban kids getting to act like punks for a day in a stadium parking lot. Or maybe that was the problem. I just remember the crush of the crowd when the band started playing and the panic that rippled through the crowd since most people didn't appear to have expected it, so there was a very real fear of being trampled for a while. Its funny, I've been to "scarier" shows, but that's the one that stands out to me.

I can't think of a band right now that I'd be scared to see.
