Winston Legthigh
I am just stunned that this convo went on this long accusing black people of racism for voting for Barack no matter what the reason was in their hearts and minds. LouieBI was under the assumption that it was a discussion of whether anyone who voted for Obama with the SOLE REASON that they voted for him because of his race - was racist... And I don't think a single post posits the "no matter what reason" argument.
LouieB
If everyone here wants to jump into people's heads and call them racists...feel free. For me, that makes no sense. LouieB
EL the Famous
i just discussed the voting by African Americans for Barack because he is African American being racist with an African American coworker and he looked at me like I was nuts too...because i was spending any time whatsoever trying to convince some crazy old white guy on the internet that what i actually meant was that it it could be considered racism if it was the only reason they voted for him. then he called me a cracker and told me to go watch some 'everybody loves raymond' on youtube and/or listen to some sheryl crow. i responded by saying i know dave chappelle and david allen grier is no dave chappelle. then, we laughed. not a joke, but it made me feel better about the whole thing. Sweet Papa Crimbo
Interesting (paraphrased) quotes from Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas of Newsweek on Charlie Rose, talking about Obama: "He's very elusive." "Obama came out with his family and kids. And then they went back off stage. Have you ever seen a victory speech by a President with noone but the candidate. All by himself." "There's a slightly creep cult of personality. He's so singular...he's a deeply manipulative guy....manages his own spectacle." "He stands back and soaks in the moment. He watches us watching him." "He's self-aware enough to know that this creature he's designed isn't a real person." Wow. It took all of...what...15 minutes before the press started the devouring. Mr. Heartbreak
1. where did you pull that definition of racism from? that isn't webster's and i think a couple of us have focused more on the discrimination than actual hatred.2. regardless, you had me until 'one can hardly blame them'. bigotry is okay based upon the color of your skin?1. Dictionary.com2. I'm not saying that bigotry is okay. I meant I wouldn't blame a black person for voting for Obama based solely on his race. Nor would I blame any non-white person (Asian, Latino, etc.) for voting for a candidate of their own background for that reason. We tend to think people are not racists or bigots, but let's remember that every single president has been a white dude. Would women voting for a woman make them sexist? Come on, people, let's get real. No one is going to cop for voting for someone for one reason only, and the decision is complex, just like many decisions are...

EL the Famous
Would women voting for a woman make them sexist? if it was the only reason, sure. you have a perfectly vaild point that most people don't vote for someone for one reason only...but there was some initial reaction from some female hillary supporters that made me question that. quick question though, you wouldn't blame a black person for voting for Obama based solely on his race. Nor would you blame any non-white person (Asian, Latino, etc.) for voting for a candidate of their own background for that reason. what about a white guy?
Pocahontas
Well I voted for Obama because he is also white, have all of you forgot about that. He was raised in white culture by a white mother and white grandparents. Enough of the fighting and name calling, the election is over Obama is our president elect, like it or not. turtlegirl37
Is it tacky that I haven't taken down my Obama yard sign? We still have ours up, yo. All three of 'em. We only had 2, then someone stole 1, so my husband put up 2 more. Net gain of 1, take that! We also still have our Boyda sign up, although she lost the reelection. The one big disappointment of election night. The people of the 2nd district of Kansas preferred that cocker spaniel Lynn Jenkins.
