Moss
I asked a day or two ago what the deal is on him. I had heard rumor that he had mob connections and wanted to know if this is a complete falsehood or has a glint of truth to it. He's also ill-equipped for the job, from what I gather. Any word on that, too? I also tried to find some info and came up blank. Only read that he presided over the Clinton impeachment hearings, is a huge spender, and has no real experience in the area he was chosen for, and is a republican. Seems like an odd pick but no mention of mafia connections (although he looks the part!).
Duck-Billed Catechist
I could not really find any whiff of rumors on google blog search. There was someone who said he looked like mafia--so it could've been that someone else made a similar observation and a third party ran with it. I doubt that Peoria is a mafia hotbed--though I don't know anything about that. Just guessing.
bleedorange
No link, that's why I was inquiring here.... How do Dems not pay taxes?ed. Oh, that one guy.... Tim Geithner, Tom Daschle, Nancy Killefer, Charles Rangel, then there's Chris Dodd and his shady mortgages, etc.
Lammycat
In conclusion from this sample size: No Democrats pay taxes. All Republicans pay taxes.
Moss
Tim Geithner, Tom Daschle, Nancy Killefer, Charles Rangel, then there's Chris Dodd and his shady mortgages, etc. Good thing this is isolated to democrats, I would hate to think there were any Republicans that had tax issues. Good thing this is isolated to democrats, I would hate to think there were any Republicans that had tax issues. My Lord, are y'all really that myopic? Is party loyalty that important? I could give two rips about whether these were Democrats or Republicans, since I'm loyal to neither. But our new Treasury Secretary can't pay taxes. Two other Obama appointees had to withdraw their names due to tax issues, one of whom was a member of the IRS Oversight Board at one time. Of course, Daschle was a lobbyist, too. I thought Obama was anti-lobbyist? Charles Rangel is chairman of Ways and Means and can't seem to get his taxes right? But all of a sudden, it's okay for all of this because Republicans probably do it, too? All of this CHANGE in Washington is starting to make my head spin.
Moe_Syzlak
uhhh, I don't think anyone is defending the dems, but your post made it sound like this was evidence that the Dems don't pay taxes. A few does not equal all and the ones that don't should be kicked to the curb, regardless of party.
gogo
I don't think any of this is OK, no matter who is doing it. But, you do realize that you started the "Dems don't have to worry about paying taxes" thing, right? And, no wonder Dems like raising taxes so much. They don't have to worry about paying them (unless they want a Cabinet post, I guess).

Yes, my post was to be taken literally that every single Democrat doesn't pay taxes Of course, when they ask the richest people in the country to pay more in taxes (a group most of these Democratic politicians are a part of), but turn around and skirt the tax laws themselves, it strikes me as both amusing and disgraceful. This strikes me as troll bait and switch. I took your OP with the appropriate light-hearted nature, IMO, citing the irony of the tax scandals for Dems and the sex scandals for Republicans. Both are amusing and disgraceful.

Sir Stewart
I think bleedorange was jumped on unfairly, or at least misunderstood, in this dustup.Anyway - sounds like this Mafia connection is a Lammy-fueled rumor!
John Smith
So nobody knows anything about the Transportation Sect'y appointee from Ill.? Ray LaHood out of Peoria, pretty undistinguished career in congress. He definitely does look like an old school mafia guy. My Lord, are y'all really that myopic? Is party loyalty that important? Lammycat
Anyway - sounds like this Mafia connection is a Lammy-fueled rumor! There is a guy in a listserve type group I'm in that had mentioned it and I asked for a link or verification as to the rumor and he hadn't got back to me so I threw it out over here. It's the only mention I had heard of it myself and the guy, albeit a staunch right-winger, is a very intelligent guy imo. Strange.

John Smith
And the Joe the Plumber thing is stupid, but it's just a meeting with a bunch of congressional staffers and aides. It's not like he's giving a keynote address or setting the agenda for Republicans in Congress. I agree its stupid, but it goes to show that they are grasping for any straws that they can hold onto. This guy was/is a moron who could not keep his story straight or get his facts correct and he is a republican party Icon now. It says a lot about the direction the party is going. Something we can agree on. The party has been going downhill for the last 10-12 years.
Guest Jules
it's not so much that he made a "mistake". it's that he was notified of the "mistake" several months ago, but only decided to address it when he was nominated.Yes.

I took it lightly as well. Maybe just misunderstood the point which I do often. I tend not to post if I'm actually upset by something. That's what makes my posts so nice and boring.
