One more time...I guess FDR was great unless you were one of the countless Japanese-Americans in the country in the '40s.

I feel badly for them, and I feel badly for the refugee Jews that tried to get into the U.S. but were not allowed because Franklin D. did not think it politically wise to let them in. Those matters do not, in my view, negate his guiding the country through the Depression and the establishment of the Social Security system, nor leading the Allies in the defeat of Germany and Japan. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good, is what I say.

The government can't run it's own shit and now they want to tell me if I'm worth medical treatment? Thanks Barack!

This is some stimulus alright.

One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and

My HMO does the same thing to me. It is the managed care approach. It's OK.

I agree--we should leave those decisions to the insurance companies.

Is this how they do it? If so I would get a different HMO. It hink if what you want is a HMO this is a wonderful approach when you're in your 30's. I don't think I want it for my grandmother. :no

This board approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit. Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.

You mean the people who specialize in this shit? Yeah, me too.

Insurance companies don't specialize in medicine; they specialize in making money by helping people as little as possible. My own family has been touched many times by the evil that is the medical insurance business plan.

Insurance in general works this way too, but HMO's handle stuff this way. Also it's not quite so easy to get anew plan, it can be cost prohibative to get on a differennt plan if you are already offered a standard plan at work. Those who shop for their own will most likely run into the same situation with most insurance coverage they look at.

See! You could work for the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology!

As a private citizen, I'm obviously more qualified to make these decisions than the government is. So no health care for you.

By the way, the position of National Coordinator of Health Information Technology was created by the Bush Administration. I'm guessing you probably didn't know that since the right wing talking heads are making it sound like the job is Obama's creation intended to steal away control over your health decisions.

I saw a debunking of that shocking "National Coordinator of Health Information Technology" post -- actually, this was created during the *gasp* Bush administration. And as far as this office making decisions, it makes recommendations for possible next steps - kind of like your doctor or insurance company. Get a grip everyone.

So now something created by the Bush Administration is okay? I thought he was Satan incarnate. I'm going to need a tutorial here. Bush is evil unless it involves a position that Obama also likes? Is that right? And even though a bill passes unanimously and a president signs it and makes a statement in support of it, that party and that president didn't really mean it (see Clinton, Bill and DOMA discussion in other thread)?

As for the post, it's unnecessary regardless of what the official duties are. Why should a government agency have any say or recommendations as to a private citizen's health care? Or have anything to do with anybody's medical records?

Can the Centers for Disease Control look at health records so a plague doesn't break out?
