fearfulandpale
Is it just me, or was Grohl of the Foo Fighters going after Jeff at the Grammy Nominations show last night? First he said something about not having his nudie suit, and then he made a comment about it being an honor just to be nominated for a Grammy. What a sore winner. caliber66
Uh, he was announcing the nominees for best country performance. The great majority of Nudie suit-wearing musicians have been Country(ish) music performers. He wasn't talking about Wilco.
fearfulandpale
Well I take your point, and of course I realize nudie suits have been around a while, but have we forgotten who beat out Wilco for the Grammy last year? It just seems like a pretty big coincidence.
OOO
I must admit that it is very peculiar that David Grohl would say it is an honor to be nominated for a Grammy at the Grammy Nominations Show...
bjorn_skurj
Maybe he forgot he won.
PearlJamNoCode
Wilco had it coming... Jeff called them "Poo Fighters" and "neanderthals" in Upper Darby in February
The High Heat
Wilco had it coming... Jeff called them "Poo Fighters" and "neanderthals" in Upper Darby in February Witness. Of course, Jeff said he was just kidding (with a wink).
mpolak21
Either Tweedy or Farrar, I forget how exactly the story goes, chucked Nevermind out of the window of the Uncle Tupelo tour van. They claimed it sounded like Whitney Houston. --Mike

chumley
This is nothing new. Grohl once dissed Wilco at a Mission Impossible show at the Burke Community Center back in 1985. Fuck that guy.

lost highway
I've met him. He is a super nice dude. I'm sure he has a similarly famous musician sized ego as a lot of folks. This might all be part of a Kanye/Fifty Cent type feud that could boast bigger record sales for Foo Fighters and Wilco in 2009. (Insert false gossip of feud here to boost word of mouth publicity)
froggie
> chucked Nevermind out of the window of the Uncle Tupelo tour van. They claimed it sounded like Whitney Houston. the opening track sounds a lot like tupelo's That Year
Guest Speed Racer
Seems to me that saying, "It was an honor to win a Grammy at a nominations ceremony would be a dick thing to do, or at least situation-inappropriate. At the nomination ceremony, you talk about how happy you were to be nominated; when you win, you get up there and say, "Fuck all y'all, winnin' RULES!" I won't even cast a vote for coincidence - it's just completely unrelated to Wilco.
dondoboy
Oh bother. Grohl coughs up outdated jock rock. None of his albums amount to a hill of beans or will be remembered. Wilco is a band that will continue to live well beyond any of the band members. In the catalogue of American rock music, Grohl will be remembered as the last of many drummers for a three album meteoric rock band, not for anything he's done since. He may be a perfectly nice guy, but his music is shit.

I think where you're wrong is that albums like S/T and the Colour and the Shape will be remembered fondly for being good nineties rock music. That said, they are unusual to be the efforts of a drummer after his famous rock band expired. The only drummer I can think of that was so successful as songwriter/band leader after his band expired is Phil Collins.
Atticus
I never in my life thought that I would read about wilco and the foo fighters in the same context. wow
