I've had it at home since Tuesday......and have been itching to pop it in.......but I also want to save it until the weekend. Will I have the will power to resist?
Artifice
Just watched "Knowing" last night. Holy shit, that's a terrible movie. Started out with a cool concept, but yikes, it just went nuts. I saw this and Push this week because I forgot to reorder my netflix queue. What a bunch of trash. Knowing started off well, and then fell completely apart. Push was almost laughably bad, but the screaming chinamen made me want to hurt small animals. WTF was Dakota Fanning doing in that trash fest? Saw "Moon" on Tuesday. Thumbs up, hella good. I probably wont catch it in the theater. I hope the DVD release is soon. Last night: The Diving Bell & The Butterfly. Awesome. It's been in my queue for a year or so now. I am scared that it is going to be horribly depressing. I don't need that right now. Oh, and even with "knowing" and "push", this thread was too high brow. So I submit last night's entertainment: This was absolutely stupid and very uneven, but I was in the right mood for it.

I don't need that right now.My view is that no terrific movie is ever truly depressing. Even if the subject matter is difficult, you're still experiencing good art, and that's always uplifting. As for Diving Bell, the tone is often surprisingly resilient and good-humored. Really great.
Analogman
Tron Legacy Tron Legacyis a forthcoming 2010 science fiction film. It is a sequel to the 1982 film Tron. NightOfJoy
Picked this up this week, pretty amazing. --Mike I finally watched "Friend of Eddie Coyle" last nite. Great flick with the added bonus of early '70s Blackhawks hockey being shown. Helmets, who needs 'em?
Sir Stewart
Watched The Safety of Objects over the weekend - another one of those Magnolia-wannabes (one of my favorite movie review moments is in a review of Crash, something like "this movie wants so bad to be Magnolia. But I can't blame it; if I was a movie, I'd want to be Magnolia too"). Most of it was engaging, thanks to the dramatic edits and lack of over emoting. But once the finale started shifting into high gear, I groaned. Some movies should just end without an ending. Too much closure, too much "ahh, we're all connected and everything's going to be okay" bullshit. Nice performances from Glenn Close, Dermot Mulroney and that girl from Twilight, who is a kid in this.

GtrPlyr
It's been many years since I last watched this show, still as funny as I remember it though. Paget Brewster should do more comedy, she's so good in this.

Winston Legthigh
Now you know to politely decline if Ozzy ever offers to make you breakfast.I read that the Ozzy orange juice scene was faked for comedy. Supposedly the WASP drunk dude's vodka bottles were filled with water as well (though he was legitimately plastered). I kept thinking "these guys have no idea that this genre is about to die in 2-3 years" while watching it. Just goes to show you that talent alone isn't enough. You may have a guitarist that can go deedledee deedledee deedledee like Eddie Van Halen all day long, but if you don't have "the song", there's nothing that makes your band interesting. Poison, for as much as I'm not a fan, at least understood that part - they had several successful hits. The bizarre part was that the glut of hair metal bands produced a market that all looked and sounded the same - especially the bottom feeders. The big hair! The make-up! The skinny jeans! The screechy vocals! It's quite the time capsule.
bobbob1313
I must be missing it, I figured Just A Fan would be buzzing with Funny People talk, because it might as well be called Wilco (the reference). I liked it, mostly because I'm very forgiving of a movies obvious flaws if it has enough likable parts. This one goes on way too long and loses a lot of what made it so enjoyable in the last third. There is a really good movie about a superstar facing his own mortality and coming to grips with it and all that, and throw the first two thirds it is very sweet and mature and funny and everything you would expect Judd Apatow to do if he decided to get serious, but the love story really bogsit down. It wouldve been better if he died in act two. I also saw 500 Days of Summer, which was just terrific.
Beltmann
I'm very forgiving of a movies obvious flaws if it has enough likable parts. That's a good way to approach art in general, I think. Searching for ways to dislike a work is an intellectual dead end, while there's nothing to lose in looking for aspects to admire. When I'm at the movies, I'm always hoping for pure moments, flares of discovery or exhilaration or pleasure, and those isolated fragments--which may last only for seconds--can enthrall me even when the film entire leaves me cold. One superb performance, image, insight, or joke can justify any picture. In fact, fragments might matter more than films, because often they are what we absorb from a movie and most want to talk about.
