LouieB
It was flying out the door at Laurie's yesterday. I stopped in to get my copy yesterday and someone bought two copies just as I bought mine and someone was buying it when I walked out the door. When I asked about the vinyl, Samorama clearly had heard that question a few too many times prior to my request....I guess the vinyl is coming out later. Plan to listen to it today on the way to or from Joliet. Can't wait. LouieB
bleedorange
This may sound a bit hyperbolic, but this album is f'ing amazing. There are twists and turns throughout this album that just keep impressing me with each listen. And there isn't a wasted second. I don't think I've seen a lot of love for "Prison Girls," but that song is incredible. This has just hit the sweet spot for me and it holds the promise of revealing even more with future listens. It's official, Neko Case can do no wrong.
tugmoose
Don't forget - Neko's on Leno tonight (Wed).
Dr. Steve Brule
Sold 30 of them by today at 6pm. Turned many people away tonite but we have 40 more in tomorrow. The free poster is even being waitlisted. She definitely outsold Andrew Bird and M Ward's one day totals at our store.
LouieB
I have only listened to this thing once (including nearly all the Marais filler track) and I am not yet amazed, although all the pieces are there. Neko can do no wrong even singing the phone book, so what the heck. LouieB

Give it a few good listens loud, without distractions, and straight through, that should help

I just cracked it open and listened for the first time on the way to a wake, so yea, not the best way to give it a listen. The cast of musicians is amazing.... So how long DOES the last track go on? I quit at just over 30 minutes as I pulled into the garage last night.... LouieB

hacienda
I'm enjoying this album a lot, but I've been thinking about the vinyl release, which is the way I usually go these days. How's it going to work? 2LP, with "Marais La Nuit" on the 3rd and 4th sides? That seems a bit crazy. Sorry if this has been covered up-thread... Edit: Amazon will let you preorder a "UK LP Pressing" for $28.02. It says it's only 1 disc, but with "Marais La Nuit" I'm not sure how that's possible. Causes me to wonder whether this is really a vinyl listing. Right. Still, I can't imagine how that's going to work.
Winston Legthigh
The album notes on iTunes mentions a collaboration with Los Lobos, but doesn't mention which song... Does anyone know? Can anyone with liner notes help a brother out?Muchas gracias
mastershake
just noticed this lyric the other day in the magpie song: Come on sorrow, take your own adviceHide under the bed, turn out the lights doesn't have the emotion when you just read it on the page, but when she sings it - awesome. for some reason it reminds me of something jeff would write, personifying sorrow as a rational (or perhaps irrational) being. i think magpie in the morning is one of the most impressive songs she's ever created. those lines get in your head and stay in there all day. lyrically it's full of imagery and allusions... definitely a shining point for her artistically. this entire album is exploding with commercial viability - she could really explode if they market it well. Can anyone with liner notes help a brother out?Muchas graciashttp://www.pabsttheater.org/nekocase this article says steve berlin plays a midi-saxophone solo while birds are chirping... i don't have the album on my work computer but i do remember that part. possibly the magpie song? Neko can do no wrong even singing the phone book, so what the heck. I'm kind of feeling the same way. It's not blowing me away just yet. Don't really think "Magpie to the Morning" is the standout track, either - I'm digging "Fever".
LouieB
Just over 30 minutes (31:39).I guess I will have to listen to the last 1:20 to make sure I didn't miss anything.... A whole side of this on vinyl? Yikes......seems like kind of a waste of oil. LouieB

Analogman
I just got this today. The CD booklet artwork is much better than what ended up on the cover. I would have went with the booklet cover as the album cover. She also gives us some more legal warnings in the liner notes.
mastershake
why does anyone care about the album cover? you buy cds for the music - who cares what is on the cover?
solace
why does anyone care about the album cover? you buy cds for the music - who cares what is on the cover? then why do artists even bother spending time and money putting together artwork? i mean seriously... artists have just been wasting their time and money the last century!!!! Analogman
I do. I suppose it comes from the hours spent looking at album covers, liner notes, inserts, etc. when I was a kid. I see it as a complete package.

mastershake
then why do artists even bother spending time and money putting together artwork? i mean seriously... artists have just been wasting their time and money the last century!!!!i am serious - the music is the important part. artists are spending time and money on artwork now - but give it another 10 years and all songs will be purchased digitally. they won't be making cds anymore and artists won't be spending so much time worrying about a cover.
