Lammycat
A lot of great tunes mentioned but the 70s (in my eyes) were also a time of shitty tunes that were inexplicably great, in a way. Many of these have been mentioned but I'd like to add: Fox on the RunThe Night Chicago DiedLike a Rhinestone CowboyConvoy

cryptique
I'm tempted to use only shitty or ridiculous songs to characterize the '70s, but of course that wouldn't be fair. On that list, though, would probably be the likes of these: "In the Summertime" - Mungo Jerry"Rose Garden" - Lynn Anderson"Don't Pull Your Love" - Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds"Gimme Dat Ding" - The Pipkins"Joy" - Apollo 100 & Tom Parker"The Candy Man" - Sammy Davis, Jr."Popcorn" - Hot Butter"Disco Duck (Pt. 1)" - Rick Dees & His Cast of Idiots"Sometimes When We Touch" - Dan Hill"I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" - England Dan & John Ford Coley Not a fair picture of the '70s, admittedly. "Sky rockets in flight, afternoon delight" "Yummy yummy yummy I got love in my tummy" "Your so vain, you probably think this song is about you" Those tunes helped me formalize my worldview. I thought about Sweet as soon as I submitted my list. And Convoy! I still know every word to that "song". One more I might add "Saturday night" by the Bay City Rollers although not sure it's in the inexplicably great category.

jakobnicholas
My Mom has these 45's: King Tut - Steve MartinMr. Jaws - Dickie Goodman And the B-side of Seasons of the Sun (Terry Jacks) had a song called Put the Bone In. It was covered by Soul Asylum later. Very strange title and song: Put the bone in She yelled at the store 'Cause my doggie's been hit by a car And I do want to bring him home something Put the bone in She yelled out once more Because the meat from the pork is so sweet And the bone from the pork give to me Put the bone in she begged him As she paced across the floor Put the bone in she yelled out once more Put the bone in She yelled at the store Cause my doggie's been hit by a car And I do want to bring him home something Put the bone in She yelled out once more ..
