indy81
I was always figured it was primarily the Chicago connection and nothing much to do with Barack's tastes.
Calexico
Do y'all honestly believe that Barack could name 5 Wilco songs? I was thinking the same thing myself. I meet people all the time who have no idea who Wilco are and they are just ordinary mopes. I am sure an incoming President would be a tad pre-occupied with other things rather than what "the kids are listening to". Unless it actually is members of Wilco bombing Gaza and then I am fairly certain that the NSA has briefed Obama on who they are. And they better watch out is all I'm saying. LouieB
Barack knows who Wilco is; that is well documented. What is not obvious, and honestly can only be confirmed by Jeff or someone, is how close they really are. I always assumed they would play somewhere at the Inaguration. I guess that was wishful thinking. LouieB
mastershake
Wilco was probably deemed not famous enough to play the event.
jenbobblehead
i'm watching the concert now and wilco's absence is obvious to me, but whatever. It would have been nice for them to play one of the mermaid avenue songs...
thejokeexplained
I am sure an incoming President would be a tad pre-occupied with other things rather than what "the kids are listening to". God i hope this is the case. I love music as the next guy but i would hope with the state of this country, as well as a great portion of the rest of the world. pop culture should be the last thing on Obama's mind. Help fix the shit first and then entertain yourself!
Guest Hollinger.
since when are "the kids" listening to Wilco?
solace
well... while Wilco aren't big enough to play the We Are One event... there are tons of other balls they could have played... Arcade Fire are playing one, and the Dead played one on Saturday night Barack knows who Wilco is; that is well documented. What is not obvious, and honestly can only be confirmed by Jeff or someone, is how close they really are. I always assumed they would play somewhere at the Inaguration. I guess that was wishful thinking. LouieB supposedly they had 2 nights at the 9:30 held for this week (booked before he won even), but apparently whatever was planned didn't happen or was outbid. uncool2pillow
I really liked Betty LaVette singing Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" until Jon Bon Jovi joined her. Ugh.

ZeroCharlie
ok first up i am not american so pls beare with me... what i dont understand is why u2 and other non-us bands play at such a thing like the inauguration of a us president? i get the whole international goodwill thing but really... why?Coldplay was booked. Oh wait! They're from across the pond! pop has flown the coop. Jeff tweedy has had dinner at Obama's house. There was a pre campaign "promise" in passing that if he ever got elected Wilco could play the inauguration. I say it's only fair Wilco has done some fundraisers for him, I know Jeff even hit the phones for him. Bono couldn't even vote.
LeeT4321
I could've lived without seeing U2. Bono pisses me off. But I am more upset that Conan O'Brien wasn't chosen as Barack's vice prez like he was promised. And I heard somewhere that Barack likes Bob Dylan which is awesome. We have a president who listen to freakin' Dylan? Barack smoked a lot pot. and I wanna see him smoke a friggin cigarette. That would be badass. Flick his butt and pound on the big red button and implode the entire Middle East ahahahaha. I just purged like 19 different thoughts.
mfwahl
Who is better friends with Barach, Jeff Tweedy or William Ayers?
IATTBYB
FWIW, the b-i-l blog says that JT is still in NZ recording and is not due back in the states until tomorrow. Maybe that explains why no Wilco at the ball.
LouieB
After watching some of the coverage last night, there is no way Wilco wouldn't have played if they had been asked. Also there were many places that they COULD have played that would have been both appropriate and very cool. All the big names hogged the Neighborhood Ball, but there was a youth ball and a home state ball, both of which could have hosted Wilco. Stupid....totally stupid. (I love Stevie Wonder, but come on now.....) LouieB
