Littlebear
Oh, I found one: one voice, one guitar - a recent lovely lil' gem from an obviously talented young artist from England... "New Romantic" by Laura Marling:

anthony
I usually prefer songs in this fashion (guitar / voice only). My list would be huge. I really dig this stuff. Jeff's PNW is my favorite Wilco(related) LP. Dylan, Neil, all the trendy MTV Unplugged stuff. Love hearing acoustic demos (I am think of the Beatles Anthology stuff from George and John). jmacomber68w
Working Class Hero.........John Lennon 2nd that, others off the top of my head... Anything by JeffDave Matthew's Crush and Gravedigger off of the Benaroya Hall Damien Rice's The Professor Josh Ritter's The temptation of Adam (If you discount the horn intro) These are what I've been listening to recently, I'm sure there are many more
Orkie
Each time a song comes to my mind and think it'd fit, I observe there's a bass line here, a harp part there, or a vocal overdub... Keep searchin'... Good call about Marissa Nadler above... I would have chosen "Silvia": Silvia has an organ in it though.
Littlebear
Silvia has an organ in it though. Not on the live track I linked above. I think that live version is even better than the album one. Oops: I realize I didn't give the right link above, here's the good one: Above was Blaze Foley's "Clay Pigeons" (with a bass line...)
Sweet Papa Crimbo
With the money from her accidentShe bought herself a mobile homeSo at least she could get some enjoymentOut of being aloneNo one could say that she was left up on the shelfIt's you and me against the World kid she mumbled to herself When the world falls apart some things stay in placeLevi Stubbs' tears run down his face She ran away from home on her mother's best coatShe was married before she was even entitled to voteAnd her husband was one of those blokesThe sort that only laughs at his own jokesThe sort a war takes awayAnd when there wasn't a war he left anyway Norman Whitfield and Barratt StrongAre here to make everything right that's wrongHolland and Holland and Lamont Dozier tooAre here to make it all okay with you One dark night he came home from the seaAnd put a hole in her body where no hole should beIt hurt her more to see him walking out the doorAnd though they stitched her back together they left her heart in pieces on the floor When the world falls apart some things stay in placeShe takes off the Four Tops tape and puts it back in its caseWhen the world falls apart some things stay in placeLevi Stubbs' tears... Papillon Parade
Idaho - Josh Ritter. Absolutely beautiful. All that love all those mistakes What else can a poor man make?So I gave up a life of crime I gave it to a friend of mine Something else was on my mind The only ghost I'm haunted by I hear her howling down below Idaho, Idaho Wolves oh wolves oh can't you see? Ain't no wolf can sing like meAnd if it could then I suppose He belongs in Idaho Packs of dogs and cigarettes For those who ain't done packing yet My clothes are packed and I want to go Idaho, Idaho Out at sea for seven years I got your letter in Tangier Thought that I'd been on a boat Til that single word you wrote That single word it landlocked me Turned the masts to cedar trees And the winds to gravel roads Idaho, Idaho
